Tom Ledger

Post: # 1193538Post Sick Nal Danto »

Thought this kid needed his own thread after an impressive outing last night

I think he was probably our best player over the 2 games

His stats last night

Disposals : 17
Clearances : 7
Inside 50's : 7
Free's for : 4 (head always over the ball)

Good start to the year

Would love to see him play 10-15 games this year

Thoughts ?

How can you not like this bloke. Just a terrier who hunts the ball.
You know how most opposition supporters hate Joel selwood because he gets so many head highs. Well Ledger will get a hell of a lot of head highs as well because he just goes straight for the ball harder than everyone else. He is also a decent kick which sets apart from our our other WA midfielder (CJ).
10-15 absolotely. More like 15-20 I reckon. But places in the team look quite competitive whish is good. Especially for little guys. We probably lack a tall or 2.

As I said in the match thread, he is like Leigh Montagna part 2, especially physically (maybe is a bit more comfortable inside than Joey, play wise). Really impressed with him from what I've seen of him so far in 2011 and 2012. Especially love that he can kick it pretty long on both feet. :D

Yep his kicking action is almost identical at times.

Hasnt lenny taken him under his wing in a mentor role? That was my understanding anyway.

He is looking really promising. He's got a great combination of speed and toughness.

I remember RL really liking him last year. Would have played more, but got injured. Was the best over both games IMO, can get the ball, long kick and a bit speed too! Looks like a round 1 player for mine!

I like the fact Siposs looks like a tall but who has good around the ground skills as well.
Ledger can play 25 games this year IMO!

I think we have to watch out not to burn these young guys out

play them in blocks of 4-6 games like Geelong did, keeping them in long enough to get confidence but also keeping them fresh

They are probably not ready for 23 weeks of football

Agree. I was even thinking that perhaps we ought to give Ledger, in particular, a game or two off now, so that he doesn't play a bunch of good games and use a lot of his chips before the season even starts. Some of the younger ones, who aren't used to being able to pace themselves over a season, may end up using up a lot of their energy on these games that mean very little (especially when they're also fighting for a spot in the team for R1), so if they play really well and look like they might be suitable for playing in R1, it may be worth putting them on ice for a week or two, to have them cherry ripe and raring to go when R1 comes along.

i agree. the great thing is we have a number of experienced older players and youngers play who dont look completely out of touch to do this.

i can see the 2nd year and 1st year kids getting some good games into them. the first game against port is a perfect game to show them interstate football.

agree with everyone here. lets maybe rest him next week. it really is a very long season -especially for younger guys.
tommy is ready to go round 1. id let him have next week off and maybe give markworth crocker and andreoli some game time instead.

Played a great game first up last week. Here's hoping he can keep the momentum going over the next few weeks
