Do we have the shortest list in the AFL?

Post: # 1193820Post Con Gorozidis »

Does anyone have the average heights for AFL lists for 2012?
Are we the shortest side in the AFL?

an article in the age today makes basically that point:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/n ... 1u3go.html

though it has us third oldest by a few weeks from the hawks and sydney. and a quote from watters:

''If we only played those in the 27-plus bracket every week and didn't expose some of our emerging talent, at some point there'd be a reckoning. Every week we have to have an eye on our immediate performance, but like any selection process, we need to have an eye on where we're going as well, so it's a balance.''

I am slightly concerned that we did not draft any talls in the draft just passed. My rationale is that the list is skewed to having our talls as the older players due to most being drafted around 2000-2002 and the midfielders followed from 2001-onwards so we need to regenerate as soon as possible.

I would hope that the previous draft was classified as a midfielders draft otherwise there is no excuses for not doing so. We need talls otherwise we are going to have to play the trading game.

We did get the big fella Jay Lever, but he wont be good to go for a couple of years yet.

draft this year was pretty short on talls (lol)... GWS got the manchild who was one of the few KPP that seemed worthwhile.

"we did not draft any talls" ....... we did recruit Lever 198, Wilkes 194, Markworth 191, and rookied Staley 194 Dunnel 190. Any one of Lever, Wilkes or Staley could be considered KPP "talls".

Fair point by Watters.

Was disgraceful what Lyon did to our list.

Has this been discussed before????

When he wants to be sure he's making a "fair point", Scotty loves quoting Rossy:

Rossy: "I think people are naive to think I just sit there and prepare on a weekly basis, and don't plan for the future... I understand there is a blend."

Scotty: "Every week we have to have an eye on our immediate performance, but like any selection process, we need to have an eye on where we're going as well, so it's a balance.''

Rossy: "birth certificates are out the window ..."

Scotty: "From day one, I've told them that their birth certificates are irrelevant."

(Give him time lads. Probably just a little overawed by his predecessor at the minute....)

u are a genuine douche c2s. The irony is those quotes you bestow on lyon - whom defending and lyonising (excuse the pun) seems your only reason to be on this forum - but stats show lyon paid nothing but lip service to these little quotes you seem to think are gems.
Can someone wheel out the stats please? I know I saw them but it showed we were the worst at getting games into youngeters in the afl in the past 5 years. So lyon was full of crap on this score.
Im happy for you to defend him as a good coach - he was/is but seriously dont try to pull one over me that he was also good on the development front. thats just one step far.

Happy to do so. Ross made those statements in May 2011.

In 2011, the Saints blooded 8 - equal 4th most of any side.

During the previous years, Lyon placed us in a position to win 2 premierships.

If a coach like that is worth criticizing every 2 minutes for months on end, then I daresay we never deserved him in the first place.

Don't know about the heights but with only 38 players on our senior and "veteran off the list" lists we have the least.
Teams are allowed 40 but the saints could not fit 2 more players under the salary cap.
That means we have the shortest list doesn't it.
