Where is Nick Riewoldt?
Seriously, the guy looking down the barrel....this was the great summer he was meant to have had......best shape for years>?????????
One good game against Roos last year does not a winter maketh....Is it just a fact of life that he is now mortal? a good honest player? is that it? (it happens to all so it just his best is gone and thats it?)
Today had virtually NO influence on the contest - be interested to hear what those who were thought? how did he move?
To me he looks robotic now.....not smooth at all.
If this is so I would like to see him tried at CHB for a while -lead up to the ball and help with our offence from defence......

What I noticed today, and this isn't roo-bashing, just honest analysis.
He fumbled alot when up the ground and nowhere near the 50.
This was new for mine.

Definitely not a good honest player. Considering the crappy supply from some pretty crappy players what do you expect?Teflon wrote:Seriously, the guy looking down the barrel....this was the great summer he was meant to have had......best shape for years>?????????

Re: Where is Nick Riewoldt?
I noticed twice after marking the ball he got up slowly and had his hand on his left knee and once he swore after marking it. He seems to loose his balance a lot as well. But he is a champion and I have faith he can get back to his best

Unfortunately Roo no longer has the engine and speed that he once had nor does he win his share of contested marks that you need in todays game.
Re: Where is Nick Riewoldt?
The player we knew is gone...
Is not as nimble as he once was, and was never a good enough 'power forward' to stay deep and be a threat...
CHB may be the only option... Many posters (one in particular) may sarcastically state 'yeah, play our best forward in the backline'... He is no longer anywhere near our best forward... The times have changed...
It's a shame, as it is obvious he is laboring, but just can't do what he wants to do... Champion man..

Mind and heart is there.
Not the body of a 25 year old any more.
Legend of the club. Champion of the game. Got us into two grand finals. Sad he walks Away from the game without a flag. So deserving of one.
But all good things end.

Re: Where is Nick Riewoldt?
The biggest concern of today's game for me. Horribly misjudged almost every attempted mark. He keeps this up and teams will happily just play one on one against him. Not good for a former champ just elected by his team mates to lead by example. Pray I'm wrong and he'll regain form, but not a good start. And to think he's on a contract that would pay for three good players.

Sorry. But it's sad really. What happened to the star. It's like he went to sleep one night as Nick and woke up the next morning James Manson.
I can't see him getting back.

Re: Where is Nick Riewoldt?
I remember that game against North in round 2 2010 when he kicked 8 goals..He looked so imposing in that game....then he got that injury a week or two later against the filth in that game...he hasn't been the same ever since..

He is getting up slower from being crunched these days, still a tough old war horse bashing in at it. Hope the rust is just gathered from the off season and will shake loose.

Re: Where is Nick Riewoldt?
I think your point about 11 years at CHF is correct. Read an article last year about Brereton and Carey both being pretty much finished at the corresponding age/number of games played as Riewoldt halfway through last season. The body takes too much of a battering at CHF.Con Gorozidis wrote:3 words. Washed-up Champion.

when the end comes for stars it can come very quickly.
nick has battered the bejesus out of his body for 10 years. Sometimes you wake up and the mind is willing but the body doesnt agree.
I think Nick still thinks he can will himself through with mental strength - but his body refuses to do whats its told. Sad adjutsment process for him and fans to watch.
Legend of the club. Should have been a premiership skipper.
But thats life. Joins Harves on the top shelf.

The scrutiny is going to come, a lot of it, and it will be relentless.
They were hard on him when he was flying.
He needs to put this week quickly behind him, and try to focus as best he can on the Suns.

I agree it must be CHB, but that would require a restructure of the foward line and I don't believe we have the personnel.Sobraz wrote:The player we knew is gone...
