I'm going to get whacked here, but I wish Joey would give it a rest for a little while.

I can only speak for me, but I rate him highly, but his game isn't at the level that I've come to expect so far this year.

Hosting on game day, special comments on Friday night footy.

I know he is probably building up his profile for a potential media career after footy, but would it hurt to ease off a little?

There I said it.

(ducks for cover)

I've been saying that for a couple of weeks now, but the "joey can do no wrong" brigade keep rearing their ugly heads.

He can't do both well at this stage.

Aussie Jones went down this path and during his stint in TV his form went down hill and also had some external issues as well.

Seems similar but with out the outside issues.

I'm with you K.

Maye channel 7 ate having a Biggest Loser segment this week: two Saints and a Carlscum player on!

Anyway 7 is a pathetic excuse for a football broadcaster. I can't believe how 2nd rate their coverage is.

Yep that has a lot to do with joey and his footy. As for appearing on TV and effecting his footy, what rubbish. it is just coincidence. he probably does 10 hours of media a season and all after games and usually at least 5 days before the next game. other players from all sides work and so they should. Do people honestly think Joey kicked it out on the full Friday night because of an hour job today. Lenny was on Tv last week and has been best on the ground the game before and after that. Also Joey has done media for at least 3 years now. Why is it this season that it is a problem. Dal hasnt been as good this year either. Maybe it is the 2 hours he has done on media so far this year.

Pretty small 'brigade', as most people on here whinge about him doing media work…

I have no idea why doing media would inhibit him playing good football, just ridiculous… How about Riewoldt? He's not as good as 3 years ago? Maybe these guys are in the twilight of their careers and simply aren't quite as good anymore…

He probably has media contracts, so no he probably can't ease off because people on a forum think it will improve his football.

He may not be in career best form, but I have never heard of so much moaning about a guy who is still averaging 25 kicks this year

Mythical, once again he was our 3rd highest possession winner, with 6 inside 50's, comfortably in our best 10-12.

Maybe we should trade him, most sides would appreciate his output.

I think that idea has some merit. What do you think we could get for him?

Did you watch the game? I was there and I have to say that he needs to pull the finger out.

Yes, I was at the game, thought he was certainly serviceable with a couple of glaring errors, I honestly don't think that his lack of form isn't because he isn't trying hard enough or that he is on TV too much…

Do you really think that he isn't trying hard enough?

If anything he has been pretty consistent so far this year, without being game-breaking.

He's had the same amount of touches as Dal while copping some of the best taggers, people just love to lay the boots into him more than others for some reason…

After a week of media build-up about his return, Lyon copped a spray from disgruntled Saints fans - most notably at quarter-time and following the final siren.

Flanked by security guards, Lyon had to run the gauntlet down stairs among the crowd at Docklands to get to the field of play.

But Saints midfielder Leigh Montagna said Lyon was capable of dealing with the barrage of abuse he would have received.

"I certainly heard the boos at quarter-time. I wasn't quite sure what the crowd was going to give," Montagna said.

"But I certainly don't think Ross needs five security guards.

"Knowing Ross, he would have handled himself okay if he needed to."

Aussie' problem was not his TV gig...but booze and visiting Crown...which got him flicked from his TV gig and led toa drop in his form.

Once straightened up he became a very good player again.

Joey is def trade bait for the end of this year. he is replacable and clubs will trade a high pick for him. Shame he probably will never be a superstar.

Yep really easy to replace someone who averages 25 disposals a game and is one of the few midfielders who can kick goals. But hey let's use that draft pick to recruit an 18 yo who may or may not make it. WHAT A LOAD OF HORSE s***
