Hey guys,
Trying to convince a friend of mine to get on board with the saints…
&
He is related to Stuart Trott…

Obviously a captain/B&F winner so must have been pretty decent… but before my time…

Can anyone give me any stories/info on stewie?

Would love to hear any stories…

cheers

Great player who went to Hawthorn and played in their premiership.
I'm not sure why he left St Kilda

Wore the 7 jumper and looked a bit like Kevin Bartlett.

Wingman with good pace and reasonable skill

Back in the 1970's, St.Kilda v hawthorn games were as rough and tough as football has been played.
Stuart Trott was knocked out two or three times while playing for the Saints against the hawks, including the 1971 Grand Final.
He may have left for hawthorn so they could not hammer him again.
Trotty was a courageous player. He won the 1972 best and fairest, and was Captain for one year in 1973 from memory.
He was the Luke Ball of the 1970's.

Didn't win a premiership with the Dorks. Played in their 1975 runners up team. Great player though. Pace and courage to burn.

I remember one game in about 73 against Hawthorn at Moorabbin.
He was absolutely inspirational.
Despite bein poleaxed a couple of times and bleeding profusely from the head, he led us to a gutsy inspirational win.

One bit of trivia is that Trott's grandfather was Australian Test Captain Harry Trott.

And trivia upon trivia, Harry's brother Albert also played test cricket for Australia.

In fact A E Trott is my all time favourite "quirky" cricketer.
Albert or "Albatrott" is amazing for many things

1) He has the highest test average for Australia.
Yes, that's right, higher than Bradman, with an average of 102.5
2) He also took 8/43 in the 2nd innings on debut (0/9 in the 1st innings), so 8/52 for the match
Despite a bowling ave of 6.5 he didn't get a bowl in the next test
3) Then after he had played just 3 tests averaging 102.5 with bat and 21.3 bowling he was controversially dropped from the squad to tour England
4) He basically went off in a huff and played County cricket and eventually Test cricket for Enland
He is thus one of a handful who has played Test cricket for TWO countries (Aust and England)
5) For England he played just two tests, averaging a lowly 5.75 with the bat but taking 17 wickets for 198 at a very respectable 11.65 before being dropped again
5) He is the only player to have struck a ball OVER the Lords pavillion, off no less than M A "Monty" Noble
6) In 1900 he was regarded as the finest player in the world
7) He is one of just two players to have taken a double hatrick (4 wickets in 4 balls) AND a hatrick in the same first class innings
8) He was also an excellent fieldsman
9) He loved a drink and used to eagerly accept Ales from spectators whilst fielding on the boundary
10) Towards the end of his career his weight blew out
11) He became an umpire
12) He retired from cricket broke, fat, alcoholic and without friends
13) In 1913 he shot himself aged 41
14) His Grand Nephew captained StKilda

Basically he could have been absolutely anything.
His career was scattered with amazing feats but a lot of ordinary ones in between due to lack of discipline.

Trott was an excellent running style of player, I think he played mostly on a wing. We had some top midfielders back then, such as Trott, Greene, Elliot etc, but the club managed to lose them all in one way or another. Stewie played some great games for us.

Isn't there a story about some how Trott had something to do with Geoff Cunningham being dropped when he was on 99 consecutive game's? At the time Trott and Ian Syman were the only St Kilda players to play 100 or more consecutive games and Trott didn't want Joffa joining them so he got him dropped

can anyone shed some light on this story or is it just urban myth.

Saw Trottie make his debut in '69. He was a policeman having come through the cadet system. A very fine wingman, slightly built as was the norm at the time. He was a thumping kick of the torpedo and very quick on his feet; a genuine star from day one in our golden era.
Like a lot of great Saints, he earnt a clearance to Hawthorn after putting up with the misery that started in the early 70's with the club - no money, lies and internal infighting, etc. Just goes to show what incredible club men the likes of Barry Breen and Gary Colling were to have stayed with the club their entire careers.

I am sure Mace did wear 7.

I reckon Plugger might be fishing for a reaction, no mention of Lenny or Nicky Winmar

I remember a strong in and under guy with a big mo, shoulder length hair and a bald spot - awesome player - time may be playing tricks with my mind though so wouldn't want to stand by that description in a court of law.
