He's given plenty away and plenty to the saints.

Re: Big Val
Got some facts or figures on that?, Ask any of the ex players who he paid 10 cents in the dollar of their wages and entitlements them when he was president how generous he was... ! He was a member of Carlscums dirty dozen but then again Pratt did give him the visy contract.Bernard Shakey wrote:mr six o'clock wrote:Left the saints cos fox wanted him to live in melbourne . lol

Re: Big Val
Perovic was a fantastic player great mark, booming torpedo kick. He started as a wingwan (at about six foot three) before going to CHB. He was tough as nails . At the social club one day was having a beer with Van der harr from essendon after they had looked like they were going to kill each other during the match. Van der harr had been reported for stricking Val, and a couple of idiots had a go at him. Pero stepped in, and offered them both outside.
In the days when the boys used to have a drink or two,Val shotgunned thirty cans of beer (In a ridiculously short time) . There was a plaque on the bar wall testifying to his feat ( I wonder if it's still there? it was at the cricketers arms hotel in South Melbourne , when it was run by Brian "the whale" Roberts)
Another small aside ....never saw the guy out of thongs didn't seem to like or own shoes.

Re: Big Val
He got the biggest "WOOF" ever. I saw a bit of him play. Was a Carlscum supporter for a few years at the very start of the 80's. Fortunately I saw the light in 1983 - just in time for our Golden Era of 4 consecutive wooden spoons!
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

Re: Big Val
Could have sworn I was standing next to Big Val at the 97 Grand Final. I'm sure he heard me when I mumbled,"move Shanahan" when I saw Jarman going forward.
Some time soon.

So was I - lived 10 min walk from Princess park and my brother and other family members were all carlton fans but at about 7 my grandfather sat me down and gave me a talk and got me set up for a life of pain. The 1980s were a tough time to change. My brother loves to pull out a pic of me in a mark mc clure jumper, just to s*** me. I loved John Elliot for a while for wiping the smirk off those turds faces.
My boy didn't get that far, he started to think the pies looked good when one of his mates got a jumper, told him he could follow who ever he wanted if he lived in the shed. he wasn't quite sure if I was serious so stayed true.

Re: Big Val
Loconic, enigmatic, half-genius, -- in a mind-set all of his own.
Val Perovic No9 was one of my all time favourite Saints.
He even made me like Carlton better. Like Ricey did.
I met him once at a Carlton function, in thongs.
