Re: Port Players
I think from memory before he was drafted that Salopek was a saints supporter as a kid.
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Wasn't Salopek linked to us a few years ago?andrewg wrote:Yea I heard Chaplin and salopek
Turned 27 this year, heading into his peak, but the question is whether he would be the right fit us considering our mini rebuild for our next flag.
Sainter for life.
Re: Port Players
Yep he was. Massive saints fan. Would we be happy with these pickups? Pretty sure Salopek is a unrestricted free agent.
Re: Port Players
Yep true but looking at sainterk post about rebuilding, maybe Pelchin and Waters think our next flag shot isn't too far away.SaintSimmo wrote:Wasn't Salopek linked to us a few years ago?andrewg wrote:Yea I heard Chaplin and salopek

Not sure if that is the case Salopek out of contract we will get him for nothing. Not sure where Chaplain is at

Re: Port Players
You do realize Salopek cant even get a game for Port Adelaide this year and got DROPPED from the reserves side into their reserves 2nds at one point.

Surely he wants to be paid something though.

Re: Port Players
Free agency won't make any players cheap… The club that a player is leaving has the right to match any offer from a rival club, if they match the offer then the player can't leave without a trade or going into the draft.andrewg wrote:Not sure if that is the case Salopek out of contract we will get him for nothing. Pretty unlikely that Port wouldn't match a low offer (anything under 400) to force a trade where they can actually have a say in their return.
Chaplain isn't a free agent, so would have to be a trade, unless of course we used the Luke Ball school of draft tampering, why doesn't everyone?
Re: Port Players
Pretty sure unrestricted free agent means port can't match the offer. He can just leave.
Playing in the twos or port I'm not sure hs currency will be to high, probably pay him what we pay Peak. He was pick 6 in the draft? Might perform at a decent club with good players around him. Just a rumor though.
Just looked it up
Salopek unrestricted - port Can't do anything about him leaving
Chaplain restricted - port can match offer

His club has the right to match the presented offer.
If the club matches the offer, he may choose to remain with his original club, seek a trade or enter the Draft.

Surely we aren't going to get a 27YO player that can't crack a game at a club which has only won 8 games in the past 2 years…

You know that taste in your mouth when you do a verp?
You know....when you vomit a bit when you burp...
Well, that taste, is what this thread left in my mouth.

Re: Port Players
Salopek was a Saints fan and could even be delisted by Port. He is that age group that they wont want but may be handy elsewhere. Brogan and Cornes got the shove because they wont seen as the future doesn't mean they can't play. Salopek quite possibly will just get a delisting by Port and wont need a matched wage. His big concern is pace and keeping guys like Ledger out of the line up. I don't watch many Port games but think of him as a contested midfielder of slower pace. He was a very highly rated junior and a move may freshen him up though. If Chaplin is available I would look at him and Danule Pierce would be ok if they don't want him.
Re: Port Players
Surely Port have slower players than both Salopek and Chaplain. Well maybe they dont. Hope they cant kick either. Then it would be perfect.

Re: Port Players
Do any players really try to get back to the club they supported as a kid? I highly doubt it…
If that really is a draw card, then I think we should focus on Hurley instead of Salopek.

Butcher would be a great one to target as he has dropped off the radar a bit but would still have a mass of improvement left. No a bad joke idea. Johnny Patton will have a two year contract already but he can bring Mohr and that other forward with him.
