Why are people even remotley agreeing with the umpire in this case. The umpire has basically cheated.

either way, there really shouldn't be a rule about swearing on the field. seriously? swearing? what is this? if there was a rule against swearing in my workplace i would never have got through a workday.

Two things are obvious from the video footage.

First, a 50-metre penalty was paid against Milne for swearing at O'Brien. It couldn't have been the only instance of one player swearing at another during the game that was overheard by the umpire. So I'd be interested to know under what circumstances this will be paid as a free kick (or 50-metre penalty) and under what circumstances the umpire will let it go. Is swearing now banned on the ground entirely or was this (for whatever reason) a special case. Does calling a f@#khead a f@#khead, for example, constitute vilification or perhaps workplace bullying?

Second, the umpire appears to ignore Milne and makes no move to discipline him until O'Brien complains. There is a definite time lag. It seems as if that the umpire would have taken no action in the absence of a complaint, and has caved in to pressure. Not a good look.

Laughable umpiring. The time lag makes it even sillier.

It's almost as if a someone got in his ear and said 'TV mikes picked up a swearword, And D unhappy, fifty against Milne NOW'.

What can you do?

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Agreed, and I don't know what one can do.

It certainly wasn't the umpire's first impulse to pay the penalty.

Hilarious.

It's one thing to get lucky. It's another altogether to make a dill of yourself.
