St Kilda goalsneak Stephen Milne, who won a second consecutive All Australian guernsey, is the oldest in the side at 32 and has played the most games (258).
To all those opposition supporting members of the human sub-spieces that 'chant' at the mighty Tiprat during our games... chew on this one... Milney is now an All Australian repeatist - and that is fair dinkum!

'Onya Milney!

And 'onya Sean!

:D :D

PS: So what's the consensus round here... do we give him another year, or is he getting a bit old and slowing down, and should be moved on whilst he can still get a kick? We (Saintsational) need to decide so that Cuddles and the Pelican can make the call. Actually, Milney needs to be careful or he could soon end up a 300 game player...

And to think a few on this forum were actually calling for him to be dropped/retired at the start of the year.

You showed em Yapper :P

Quite happy to admit I was one of them earlier in the year.

Worse still - Milney makes AA and doesn't get in our top 10 of the B&F :?

Somethings not right. Either our B&F is flawed or the AA selectors have no clue.

As for Lenny - the midfield is the toughest place in the AA team to win a spot. Boyd didn't even make the last 40 and will probably win the doggies B&F
Pretty hard for a forward pocket to get lots of B&F votes, even if they are doing well.

A normal good game for Milne would be 2 goals with 14 touches, would still be behind 5-6 guys who had over 25 touches, Roo kicking 3 and taking 8 marks, demptser and fisher rebounding well out of defence or stopping a gun. Saad kicked 2 in plenty of matches too…

All good and well to say he should have polled higher, but you will find in most games that there are 10 blokes who would rate higher.

Not taking anything away from Milne though, in a way I think he is the only 'specialist' player in the AA squad, apart from maybe the ruckmen, the rest are all tall forwards, key backs and midfielders.

So Milney kicks 2 goals and has 14 touches - and you reckon that 10 other blokes play better than him, on the premise that they touch the ball more often than he does? This is proof that ppl rely on stats rather than their eyes to judge the best players.

I'm not saying that those stats would have Milney as our best player - but if he touches the ball 14 times near goal and kicks a couple, then he is in our best 1/2 doz players for mine.

It's not proof of anything…
I'm not suggesting that players with more disposals have necessarily had better games…

What I am saying is that often a player with 25+ touches, 5+ clearances, 5+ tackles has had more influence on a match than a forward pocket who has kicked 2 goals… Not every time, but often.

A typical match would have Lenny, Joey & Dal with loads of touches and clearances between them, Jack & Armo similar - half the time… Roo with 8 marks and 2-3 goals… Dempster and Fisher stopping the opposition key forward… Geary setting the tone with attack and courage… Blake or Mac rucking for a whole match on their own… add to the fact that in plenty of games Saad kicked a couple of his own…

I love Milney but in most matches I wouldn't have him in my top half a dozen and neither do the coaches going by the B&F results… doesn't mean he isn't highly valued.
