2013 time capsule - who is the oracle?

Post: # 1280577Post hungry for a premiership »

Every year, when the fixture is released, my father and I go through each game individually together and we both tip either a win, loss or draw, which we mark down in pencil. It's fun and interesting seeing how the season pans out compared to the expectations pre-season, and its also fun to see who gets more results right!

Thought it might be an idea to pass this tradition onto Saintsational, if anyone's interested, because 1.) it will be interesting to see how everyone's expectations sit at this stage and whether or not they are in line with what we see in the actual season, and 2.) surely it will be an almighty feather in the cap for whoever so happens to get the most results right, no doubt bragging rights for the next year will be secured!

I'll kick things off. Here is my forecast (you can just copy and paste my forecast and change your results to make for easy reading) (also btw i'd very much like to see the forecast from all the saintsational regulars as I'm curios to know what the consensus is - are we going up, down, or treading water?):

1 - Gold Coast - Metricon - WIN
2 - Richmond - MCG - LOSS
3 - GWS - Manuka - WIN
4 - Essendon - Etihad - LOSS
5 - Sydney - Wellington - WIN
6 - Collingwood - Etihad - LOSS
7 - Carlton - Etihad - WIN
8 - Adelaide - AAMI - LOSS
9 - Bulldogs - Etihad - WIN
10 - North - Etihad - WIN
11- West Coast - Etihad - WIN
12 - Melbourne - MCG - WIN
13 - Richmond - MCG - WIN
14 - Fremantle - Pattersons - LOSS
15 - Carlton - Etihad - WIN
16 - Port Adelaide - Etihad - WIN
17 - Geelong - Simmonds - LOSS
18 - Brisbane - Gabba - LOSS
19 - Hawthorn - Etihad - LOSS
20 - Sydney - SCG - LOSS
21 - Gold Coast - Etihad - WIN
22 - Fremantle - Etihad - WIN

That leaves us with 13 wins, 9 losses - 1 more win than we had in 2012. I'm guessing that I'm probably one of the more optimistic supporters...

Over to you...

My feeling is that we've had reasonable luck with injuries the past two years, so it might be time for that to run out, which suggests we won't win many line-ball ones. Given a tough run from rounds 4-8, if we don't beat Richmond in round 2 then we'll be in serious trouble.

1 - Gold Coast - Metricon - WIN
2 - Richmond - MCG - WIN
3 - GWS - Manuka - WIN
4 - Essendon - Etihad - LOSS
5 - Sydney - Wellington - LOSS
6 - Collingwood - Etihad - LOSS
7 - Carlton - Etihad - LOSS
8 - Adelaide - AAMI - LOSS
9 - Bulldogs - Etihad - WIN
10 - North - Etihad - LOSS
11- West Coast - Etihad - LOSS
12 - Melbourne - MCG - WIN
13 - Richmond - MCG - LOSS
14 - Fremantle - Pattersons - LOSS
15 - Carlton - Etihad - LOSS
16 - Port Adelaide - Etihad - WIN
17 - Geelong - Simonds - LOSS
18 - Brisbane - Gabba - WIN
19 - Hawthorn - Etihad - LOSS
20 - Sydney - SCG - LOSS
21 - Gold Coast - Etihad - WIN
22 - Fremantle - Etihad - WIN

That leaves us 9-13 by my count, which this year would have had us finishing 13th or 14th.

1 - Gold Coast - Metricon - LOSS

3 - GWS - Manuka - WIN
4 - Essendon - Etihad - LOSS
5 - Sydney - Wellington - DRAW
6 - Collingwood - Etihad - LOSS

13 - Richmond - MCG - LOSS
14 - Fremantle - Pattersons - LOSS
15 - Carlton - Etihad - LOSS
16 - Port Adelaide - Etihad - WIN
17 - Geelong - Simmonds - LOSS
18 - Brisbane - Gabba - LOSS
19 - Hawthorn - Etihad - WIN
20 - Sydney - SCG - LOSS
21 - Gold Coast - Etihad - WIN
22 - Fremantle - Etihad - WIN

11-10-1 giving us 11 wins for the eleventh year in a row. Phenomenal.

Some explanations - I see Essendon, Carlton Richmond and Brisbane all overtaking us but think we will get one win each against Carlton and richmond.
Gold coast - the port Adelaide 2012 theory
Geelong - initially had a win which was wishful thinking more than anything else. This is more realistic.
Sydney - what a terrific advertisement for our game to see a thrilling draw - and on Anzac day!
Hawthorn - very confident to play this mob at Etihad - haven't lost to them there since 2002 I think.

Probably a finish of around eleventh or twelfth.

Looking at the opposition, I don't see any real improvement from Essendon, Carlton and Brisbane or North. I just can't quite work out how we will go though..we at least should have a bit more goal-kicking power and that can get us over the line in close games regardless of the backline not being a powerful unit. Maybe 13 or 14 wins..seems possible to me.

Essendon can only have fewer injuries, and Goddard slots straight into their top three players. The other three I'm not so sure about - Carlton underperformed this year, though.

Funny everyone has us down for a loss against Freo at Subi ... Fact is our recent record against the dockers at home is pretty good I woul put it as a win ..

1 - Gold Coast - Metricon - Win
2 - Richmond - MCG - Draw
3 - GWS - Manuka - Win
4 - Essendon - Etihad - Loss (narrow loss with controversy)
5 - Sydney - Wellington - Win

18 - Brisbane - Gabba - Loss
19 - Hawthorn - Etihad - LOSS
20 - Sydney - SCG - LOSS
21 - Gold Coast - Etihad - WIN
22 - Fremantle - Etihad - Win

Gives us 12.5 wins putting us in 8th spot by %.... Highlight match the win agains odds against the Crows in SA ... Low light the demolishion job hawthorn will do to us .. Most frustrating game vs Essendon where we lead the whole game only to be beaten after a suspect call in the last seconds ... Most enjoyable win beating Freo at Subi oval with Lee TDL and beau playing standout games

Richmond will be more difficult to beat than Essendon. Richmond's midfield is going to be one the best in the league. Essendon's is stagnating. I fancy our chances against Geelong.
