Pretty hard with at least 4 practice games but I know Gwilt and Stanley wont start on the bench.

Okay, I'll ask you again after a few practice games. And I want the team that you would pick, not the team that will be picked.

I must be biased but those teams are one key defender away from being incredibly strong teams pushing top 4! Now I know why M Brown was such a priority when you look at those lists. And to think the likes of Markworth, Dunnell, Lee, Ross, Ledger, Hickey, Milera are all on the brink of selection. I think our depth is very very good.

Our mids would struggle to rotate unless you plan to have Stanley and Gwilt as mids them our team would really struggle to rotate. If your patience is running thin with Macca then he must have really had a poor pre season because we have played footy for 3 months.

I think Lee will want to hit the ground running. He probably has two years to make an impact or be moved on. Guys in their early 20s don't get the time handed to them like kids.

Agree. Exciting times ahead, including potentially next year, if we put it all together.

We had good depth this year (except where we actually needed it- ruck and FB!), but it was different in that they had more experience, but probably less chance of improving, or playing long term, whereas that group you named have less experience, but could still make a similar impact when brought in and have the bonus of being very likely to improve with each chance they get.

dempster Stanley simpkin

geary fisher gwilt

gilbert hayes sipposs

lee reiwoldt milne

saad wilkes schnieder

mcavoy del santo montagna

hickey armo steven sub from milera, newnes, ledger, TDL, ray, ross, dunnell, jones

Geary and Gilbert interchangeable depending on forward structure of opposition

Back up in big man dept: kosi, Blake

with 8 guys lining up for the subs role I don't see us as having a depth issue in the midfield

the 2 questions to me are can stanley perform down back and can hamil turn wilkes into something formidable at FF if they are both 'Yes's" I think we will have a very good year

Montagna would be in at Milera's expense.

There's quite a few players that could play round 1. Different compared to other years where it was easier to nail the best 22 on paper.

I think we will need to find some run and movement out of the backline, TDL or Milera might actually make decent rebounding defenders and cover for the loss of Gram. Goddard going probably mean one of Siposs, Dunell or Dal Santo might need to go back. Lee will probably be expected to play from day one but I think Hickey will probably only play about 10 to 12 games and be developed rather than expected to be a full time ruck from day one- unless he can play FB.

I expect the continued move away from the gun midfielders to the transition players in Armo and Steven. So Montagna is probably going to be back in the forward defensive role or I would prefer a rebound defensive role for him and Dal and Lenny will be rotated with them more.

I've been wondering in recent weeks whether TDL might be able to play in a back pocket, especially on the likes of Cyril, Betts, Garlett, Ballantyne etc. He is meant to be lightning quick, so would probably be able to keep up with any of them, is a decent size at 181cm and is strong overhead, so ought to be able to compete well with any of them in the air and when it hits the ground he would have the speed to be able to run it out of there, or else could use his pinpoint passing to get us out of trouble.

I haven't heard if he's ever been played there before or not, but given that there is not likely to be a spot open for him in the forward line any time soon, there is probably little to lose in trying him there, to see how he'd go (in the VFL). If it works out he could be like our version of Brent Guerra or Leon Davis (when he was playing down back) or Aussie, when he was playing down back, all of whom played forward before going back and becoming "offensive weapons" back there.

If he went well there it could free up Geary to play CJ's old tagging role in the midfield, where he could put his elite endurance and manic attack on the ball or man to good use. Otherwise, if the end of this year is anything to go by, it looks like we are planning on Joey going back to his old tagging/run with roles. With BJ and Gram gone now, we may need to ditch that and get Joey playing more of an offensive game again though. Unless Schneider is fit and firing again, or someone like Milera steps up and does well on the wing.

Lots of possibilities!

Wow, either spellcheck has done a number on you or you should really proof read those posts. Young Rory is a decent golf, but not sure how he'd go in the ruck and Miles hasn't heen on the list for two years although I did rate him.

I would be somewhat disappointed if we recruited TDL and Roberton for them just to be Sandy players as a kid could do that.

Schnieds should get some more out of his body this year hopefully too. TDL or Milera will need to head back IMO just to get a spot. I love the way Sydney used Jetta to just speed off the back flanks at speed carrying the ball full length of the field. Would love if one of them could use their speed to take up the role. Otherwise wright might develop into that type of speedy back flanker that Cripper was supposed to be.
