Life before Saintsational

Post: # 1295481Post Majority »

What did Saints fans do to vent their spleen you ask?
Here is one, of probably many answers.
It is a letter printed in what was probably the biggest selling paper in Melbourne during it's time.

ST. KILDA FOOTBALL CLUB

(To the Editor of “The Argus.”)

Sir, Surely the time has now arrived for the members of this club to take a hand in the dispute between the players and the committee.
I, in common with others, purchased a season ticket to view matches played with the best available talent,
but, as matters are turning out, we are not receiving much for our membership.
Might I suggest that Mr. Wimpole, Colonel Hughes, or Mr. Love call a meeting,
and let the members thrash this petty dispute out.,
and bring about some amicable settlement.
The whole trouble could be got over by the present executive resigning and placing themselves in the hands of the meeting.

Yours, (ni)

Former St.Kilda player Francis Scully in scandal.

Mr. Sheldon, for Francis Scully, asked the jury to look at all the circumstances.
Scully was a player with the St.Kilda Football team and a good player in a League football team
was better known in the suburb for which he played than perhaps the mayor and councillors.
Scully went to the hotel of the vice-president of the football club for which he played, and took a tyre from a motor-car.
He asked the jury to say that Scully had done this thing while drunk, and that he intended to put it back the next day.

Majority,

I think you need to get a life.

however, I do like searching trove@nla when I've got nothing else to do and you find your grandfather's bankruptcy hearing.....

I have been told by a person who lives east of Bentleigh, works as a paper shuffler, watches old movies and is interested in genealogy, to get a life.

Folks, I'm on the edge of my seat. What happened? Did we play on or fold?
