What Must Goddard be Thinking Now???

Post: # 1296047Post footynut »

Goddard decided to leave the saint to move to another club, he must regreting his decision now to some extent. What does he do if the Dons dont participate in the 2013 season (worst case senario)?

Maybe he could be a club runner he loves dishing out instructions and waving his arms around.

They may decide that the players involved cannot play for one, or two years.
But the club can still field a side.
Goddard would not be captain, James Hird would be, with Goddard, Bomber Thompson and Tim Watson in the leadership group.
Billy Duckworth and Matthew Lloyd may return.
And Matthew Knights would once again be coach. :D

He's lucky he's a versatile player as he may be asked to fill a number of positions this year

I sort of fell sorry for him. I feel sorry for their fans as well. I'm a bit soft that way.

That is admirable Pav, but I wouldn't expect the same from them were the situation reversed.

He'll just sit back and count his money, I suspect. Could be their next captain. Whether there's anything left to captain is another matter.

Didn't he like their list better than ours?

He'll be a good mentor for the young players. I'm sure he'll learn over time not to crack it with the young players like when Joe Daniher spills one of his bullet like passes.

I was just thinking something similar, Pav. Plenty to get frustrated about now. At least it provides him with an outlet for his anger and frustration.

I heard Gerard Healy say that he'd have grounds to be released from his contract if that happened...

Would you have him back? I wonder if that could happen. What would be the mechanism for a club signing him, given that FA period, drafts and deadlines for final list lodgement have passed? Would he have to sit out for a year? I'd have him back, but at nowhere near $800K per year. Any thoughts?

He must feel cheated by Essendon for chasing him during free agency period and probably before, whilst behind the scenes Essendon players were being injected with banned drugs (allegedly). If he had have known, he never would have gone to Essendon and may have stayed with us or moved to another team.

This whole thing is outrageous the more i think about it. Goddard was the first 'star' player to leave during free agency, since Essendon was a poisoned chalice, it screwed up St.KFC dealings with coming up with a response with a counter offer. It also would have affected further draft picks and other negotiations, etc ,

Anyways, Essendon must have half their team banned, they must lose draft picks for the next 10 years, and St.kilda must be compensated in some way due to the Goddard deal (i dont know, compensation pick or Essendons draft picks for the next year or something) being tarnished.

He should've known that don deals usually turn sour.

Hopefully for him his contract contains a bonus for winning the b & f.

I don't think Saints would be in a position to have him back.

He'd probably be granted permission to enter an exclusive FA market and go to the highest bidder...

Who knows though, I'd believe he'd have grounds to pursue that his contract is based on something fictional if this all eventuates.

You realise this doesn't make any sense, right? Why should St Kilda be compensated for Essendon having some issues?

if i was on a board that had to vote whether to accept him back (if the afl gave the all clear which c'mon be realistic is not prob going to happen)
then i would vote nay

he wanted to go
he wanted more years and more coin
he LEFT US to go for that

while i do feel sorry for him as he has walked into this as an innocent party and its something beyond his control
i would vote no
you wanted out
you did not want to play for us anymore
if you did
you wouldve taken less years and less coin

so if you dont want to play for us then i dont want you
what he is welcomed back with open arms because it all fell on its ass over at bomber land?

but having said that
if he did come back i would accept it and move on

but it wont happen
surely not
what about the compo we got for him?
we keep those players from those picks???
cant see the afl saying keep the picks you got for bj and here, you can have him back too if you want

he'd be good back in our colors

but

he wanted to go
he chose the extra year and a bit more coin over staying with the team that gave him quite a lot
he can stay with that team

dont get me wrong
im a massive fan
MASSIVE bj fan

but he didnt want to stay with us, which means he didnt want to play for us
cannot see him turning around and asking to come back
and theres no way in a blue moon it would be able to happen

surely not

This was all a St Klda ploy as payback for lovett.... BJ was sent in as a mole with a specific get out clause to uncover the dirt and then identify and put pressure on the weakest link (reimers) once he had it.... he'll return to us amid acrimony from many supporters, only he and the club's inner sanctum ever knowing what a deed he's done for his beloved Saints.

I wish.

essendon is not going to be banned from the competition so this discussion is irrelevant. Hope that BJ is regretting his decision to walk though. And yes I would have him back in a heart beat - he is a star player who can lift the whole side. Remember the first grand final 2010 anyone? Or the 2009 one for that matter when he played the game out with a broken collar bone?
