Round One - again...
Lets have a crack to stave off boredom shall we?
Nb: EDITED for Dempster's injury
B: Simpkin Gwilt Geary
HB: Newnes Fisher Siposs
C: Gilbert Hayes Dal Santo
HF: Saad Riewoldt Dennis-Lane
F: Hickey Maister Milne
R: McEvoy Armitage Steven
Int: Milera Roberton Ray
Sub: Dunell
Em: Jones/Curren Wright Lee
Wright, Lee and Jones/Curren next in line, Curren or Ferguson to be upgraded depending on need. Monty,
of course, unavailable for Round One, Stanley injured, and assumption is that Simpkin will be right for the opener. JB potentially if not, but should only be a back-up looking forward.
Proceed.

Re: Round One - again...
Based on Monty, Schneider (just a guess seeing as he hasn't played yet, probably more so underdone), Dempster, Stanley and Markworth being unavail;
B: Simpkin Gwilt Geary
HB: Sippos Fisher Roberton
C: Newnes Hayes Gilbert
HF: TDL Riewoldt Steven
F: Milne Maister Saad
R: McEvoy Armo Dal Santo
I: Hickey Ray Jones
S: Milera
Simpkin maybe underdone too and if he is and doesn't get up, Lee to come in and play high half forward, Gilbert half back and Steven on the wing.

I have presumed Stanley is good to go therefore not shirking any tough calls.

Re: Round One - again...
If Simpkin and Dempster are missing Roberton is a walk up start. Lee might play also. At WAFL he played more like an tall small forward and could be a nice adaptable type to bring in as he can still mark and spoil but has great hands and pace at ground level, we could rotate him and Gilbert around in different positions.

Dempster listed as 2-4 weeks as of yesterday. GREAT!
I thought it was just hammy tightness.

If Dempster is out then I'd play Ray back, Dunell onto the bench and bring Wright in.
After a month off, I'm not sure I'd risk Rhys, particularly with his injury history - although GC are one of two teams I'd be prepared to continue 'The Experiment' against, especially considering he'd be - at best - underdone.I have presumed Stanley is good to go therefore not shirking any tough calls
Also, if Simpkin is not ready...

Re: Round One - again...
I still think that you will find Roberton will get the gig while those guys are missing. He allows them to use Gilbert out of the backline and we seem to be putting a lot of work into him right now. If he's not starting 22 he's back up for exactly this situation.Uncle Barrels wrote:lewdogs wrote:Dempster is injured I hear

Best 22?
B: Simpkin Gwilt Dempster
HB: Fisher Stanley Siposs
c: Steven Hayes Montagna
HF: Schneider Riewoldt Saad
F: Milne Maister Hickey
R: McEvoy Armitage Dal
I: Newnes Geary TDL/Milera
S: Dunnel/Wright/Ross/Roberton
I like that we have 4 developing players that are all playable.
I don't like our spine.
If that side stays on the park, it just might make the 8!

Schneider no longer automatic Best 22 for mine, nor has Ross shown enough yet - prefer Curren's work rate at the moment

Re: Round One - again...
So Dempster is out, Montagna is out and Simpkin and Schneider are uncertain. Stanley would probably be fit but I think you can add two or three weeks onto any prognosis for him as the club will be very conservative.
I'm going to guess that Simpkin gets a gig and Schneider gets some fitness in the VFL while the remaining midgets dual it out in the senior side. GC is one side where we can afford to play four small forwards because they just don't have the experience in defence to keep them in check.
B: Gwilt, Simpkin, Geary
HB: Roberton, Fisher, Siposs
C: Gilbert, Hayes, Steven
HF: TDL, Riewoldt, Saad
F: Milne, Maister, Hickey
Foll: McEvoy, Dal Santo, Armitage
Int: Ray, Milera, Newnes
Sub: Wright
Emg: Lee, Dunell, Blake

Re: Round One - again...
I have Nate Wright in ahead of Dunell.
Our backline looks very small.... Id have Roberton in there for sure if Dempster is injured and Simpkin may be underdone.
We will get through the GC game but we really need Stanley to come through down back. Especially since coaches are saying it is going to be an open style of footy this year. Open fwd lines give full fwds a chance to kick bags.

Re: Round One - again...
Markworth makes one spot… I don't think Ferguson is ready, Staley & Minchington off the radar, maybe only Shenton who might also be considered, but I think we are desperate for more midfield depth so Curren should be upgraded first, IMO.Uncle Barrels wrote:See above. Well he isnt playing this week again so i doubt he will play. Kosi isnt playing either so he is probably out.Simpkin isnt playing either so looks like he wont play. It looks like this weeks squad will be where round one comes from baring Joey.
