again i dont see how goose being hit helped schnieds tear us apart in the final qtr or how it made us only kick 4 behinds for the last qtr ... these are the real reason we got beaten that night .. barrys hit was not really a big factor in the loss in fact if i recall after the hit Baz was pretty quiet as i think he had a bad feeling he was going to be done for that hit

Hall clobbered Maguire got the swannies going , Williams kicked one straight after .
Jolly killed us last quarter and some idiot played a dud on schneider in last quarter until it was all over.
Unfortunately some idiot in charge also decided to leave Hamill / Kosi in the stands waiting in the wings for grand final that never came.

Then the immortal words that Leigh Matthews said after the game the hardest thing about winning grand finals is getting in one remember it to this day unfortunately , we had our chances and blew it.
Hope is given luck by the footy gods we will win one.

Wasn't exactly a 'love tap' from BBBB on Maguire.....I wasn't that far away from the incident and Maguire was throwing up immediately after he hit him. We wouldn't have won the flag anyway but I think everyone agrees that justice wasn't served, which still annoys the hell out of me now.

According to the tribunal who were briefed to clear him - it occurred "in the play".

Even though the ball was 70m away they argued that one quick kick would see the ball down there
- therefore it was in the play
- therefore the contact was permissable
- they deemed it to not be excessive (despite Goose being prone for a minute or so)
- therefore he was clear to play in the GF
- and so the AFL's b@stard lovechild stole a Premiership

From memory I think the argument was - that it wasn't behind play which would have been a much more serious offence (at the time).

I think Barry or maybe someone else, also got off on one when he hit someone after the 1/4 time whistle but I maybe wrong about that one.

The charge of 'rough play' was completely thrown out because it occurred at quarter time so could not be considered 'in play'

Quite amazing that a Tribunal decision cost Wet Toast a flag and I would like to know the AFL Stooges on the tribunal that night. However, it will be argued that it was all a long time ago, blah, blah, blah. I can remember before the Tribunal hearing Paul Roos talking the incident down and Sydney alluding to the fact that Goose had laid down and faked it all. I think this incident is the one that causes me the biggest anger in my history of following the Saints since 1969. A suspension would not have done us any good but it would have been justice.

Yes it did buckleys in terms of affecting our premiership hopes. But it was a dog act and he deserved to be punished. The fact that everyone knows, including the big thug himself, he got off so the AFL could have a big name player in the Grand Final makes it worse. FFS Baker got 10 weeks on the word of the Freo trainer for something there wasnt even video footage on. Its more evidence that the AFL treats some clubs like gold and others like excrement
