You're right. Roberton or someone else was the answer, 5cm shorter and 20kg lighter
You're right Iceman...there was no one else. Fisher was not the answer as has been suggested elsewhere.
And we were down a defender in Gilbert dont forget.

Actually I am suprised we didn't get beaten by 8-10 goals after Gilbo went down.

Our defence went OK considering how undermanned we are.

Cloke was well beaten last week?,

Your point on fletcher is a good one.... There is two reasons he doesn't play on monsters....

Be good if SW knew them

Why is he better for the experience.... Dont understand that throw away line??

Perhaps SW might be better for the experience when he realises Stanley is not a key defender.... Never will be...
So Watters goes hard for Brown - but apparently brown is a spud.

He tries to blood Stanley at FB to give him experience and suddenly he will 'never be a key defender'.

How many games has Stanley played? Show me a gun key defender in the afl with as little experience as Stanley??

So what do you suggest Watters does at FB this year??!

Get realistic..

Stanley is totally wasted at full back. He would have to be one of the quickest sprinters in our side. How does he use that at full back. Maybe he needs to be on a half forward flank or wing where he can use his pace.

He's only played about 3 or 4 games down back. He'll be fine I reckon.

Closing speed is very important for a defender.

Thats how you learn Stanley will watch tapes and learn from this. While this was happening Riewoldt was giving the AA CHB a lesson at the other end.

See Jake Carlisle at the bombers - that's what Stanley should aspire to be. Quick, strong, 200cm FB.

No one wants to tell me who plays at FB instead of Stanley for the longer term?

Do we wait till the next draft and then wait another 4-5 years to see if that pick is any good? Or do we try and develop the cattle we've alredy got?!

Persist with Stanley. He will get better.

Jake Carlisle, Talia, Grimes, Trengrove... There's a couple....

I didn't mention Brown... Not sure how he's come into it... He's not on our list?!

Stanley could play CHB.... Reid style... Possibly BP on resting talls like Ryder...

But not on Cloke, Hurley, Kennedy, Walker etc... Not strong enough

So is breaking the lines and kicking over the pack and into the fwd 50.

I just cant believe people are so impatient.

Trav Cloke is on a million bucks a year and is 26 and at his absolute peak. He never has two bad games in a row and pretty much monsters/outmarks everyone in the comp in a one on one.

Im just flabbergasted .

I mean if Rhys played fwd I can guarantee hed get toweled up by a Harry Taylor or Darren Glass.

lets just let him develop. ffs

Yes clearly BitMart is an idiot; We were identifying deficiencies in a player(and things he need to work on) and BigMart turned it into an point scoring exercise against anyone who has ever believed Stanley is a good player.

Poor form... not on Stanley's behalf.

Spot on , my point exactly.not knocking the lad.He is one of our best players, but not at full back or any back
SW clearly got it wrong and Rhys he was a gun last year I thought
He should be getting groomed to take over from Nick, god help us when he retires.

Lets persist with Stanley. If it doesnt work in 3 years - come back and tell me then.

The tiggy touchwood frees paid to Cloke would have upset Stanley I imagine. I thought Stanley did quite well under the circumstances. Cloke is the leading full forward in the game at the moment and he was held to 4 goals, the same number as our CHF.

Buddy Franklin is the leading FF in the game....

Jack Riewoldt would be next, just going in the last three years....

Agree, give him some time, he's just learning the trade - how did their seasoned backmen do on Roo with one leg???? The guy's only played a handfull of games, and probably less than half of those in defence. Patience

are you trying to suggest cloke is no good?

Cloke is a mile ahead of Jack on every single measure.

He has more than twice as many marks. 50% more diposals and similar goal average to Jack Riewoldt.
He is also 196cm and a whopping 108kg!!!!! he is averaging 114 DT.
the guy is a monster. anyone suggestion otherwise is just mind boggling.

In 2013 - Cloke is 2nd in the comp for marks (Roo is first and Westhoff is 3rd)
He is 1 for goals (followed by Lindsay Thomas and Roo)

So fair to say this year the 3 best fwds are:

1. Travis Cloke
2. Nick Riewoldt
3. Justin Westhoff

Other than the extraordinarily dodgy 50m penalty before half time, how was Cloke going? Yep missed what he might have taken a couple of times, but he didn't dominate until his experience was allowed to play out. The biggest mistake Rhys made was not standing off him and allowing his height and speed to spoil.

But, as various folks have said, Rhys has played how many games, and how many in defence?

He could of easily kicked 8?
Stanley needs ruck forward time for mine.

I can remember an experienced Max getting bent over by Neitz and he got about 11 goals or something kicked on him. Stanley played on a guy who is an A grade forward and they needed to give him cheap frees to really rip him apart. made a silly mistake in hitting the ball for the boundary instead of for a behind but that will come with experience.

Franklin is a 6'6" Milne more a giant wingman than a true old school set FF.

Has Stanley ever even kicked any goals in the VFL?

If you cant kick goals in the VFL how do people think hes going to kick some in the AFL?

Spencer White is more of a goalkicker than Rhys.

People seem to think because hes tall, blonde and fast then naturally he should replace Roo.

He is a different beast to Nick and his own man. Cant he be the next Rhys Stanley. Its totally unfair to expect him to be the next Nick Riewoldt.
