He can play a bit and would have done a reasonable job for us. That said, the price rumoured last year was way too expensive. Surely we can get someone reasonable without paying through the nose?

When teasm keep banging the ball high to the goal square like Essendon did for Gumbleton and others, Port did for Schultz and Westoff, Geelong Will do for Pods and Hawkins, and we get our undersized back outgunned and/or penalised, then dont complain about not having a GOP fullback.

Brown is not a world beater, but the sum of the whole is more valuable than the individual parts. A Brown type strengthens the backilne as Gilbert and Fisher and Gwilt and Dempster and others dont have to take the monster and can play the 2nd and third forward better.

Would free up Stanley to go forward where he belongs.

So easily dismiss Brown as a GOP and no great loss, but the fact remains - we have no decent fullback and an undermanned undersized backline.

And while we do the Reiwoldts, and the Schultz's and the Gumbletons and Pods and hawkins and Roughhead and Buddy and a whole gaggle of tall forwards will have a field day at our expense.

We can find a cheaper and more than adequate FB from elsewhere. I didn't understand the Mitch Brown obsession that has taken hold of our club. Surely we can find a big defender from somewhere. To be honest, I was surprised that we had no back up plan last year if the Brown deal fell through.

I agree its not doomed. I agree with many that Brown was only a GOP, but many were looking at his game in isolation.

I, like you, am sure that the Pelican is looking further afield for a Brown type who is of similiar ability.

The thing that I liked about the whole Mitch Brown thing was the open aggressiveness shown towards recruiting. SW and Pelchin seem to approach things a lot differently in that regard so let's hope they publicly announce their next target soon.

Brown is a good player - fair amount of sour grapes in this thread ... but that said brown was not the be all to end all so him signing with WCE doesnt really hurt us that much as we now focus on another player
