End of year changes I'd like to see.

End of year changes I'd like to see.
Who I'd like to see shopped around:
Big Mac - Good player, Personally I don't ever think he'll be great.
Stanley - Struggling. Would rather keep him but why not test the waters
Gilbert - Best days behind him.. His cons outweigh his pro's.
Ray - Tries but might be better suited an another club.
Gwilt - (Although trading him will leave us extremely depleted down back)
Who I want retained:
Dal Santo - He oozes class, Really want him around for the next 2-3 years to assist the kids.
Hayes - See above, Don't need to say anything else about Lenny. Hoping he goes around again, Unfortunately I think he'll hang em' up.
Montagna - Probably our most consistent player. Hope he remains a one club one.
Armo - Fills in that age gap, tries his heart out. Just needs to improve his decision making and build that tank.
Player's who should play out the year :
Tom Lee
Nafe Wright
Tommy Curren
Jack Newnes
Seb Ross
Players to Retire :
Kosi
Sneids
Milney
Blakey
Fisher (Got a sneaky feeling he'll call it quits. Hope I'm wrong)

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
McEvoy was very disappointing tonight. Didn't seem to run well at all - maybe injured. Stanley just can't seem to make an impact - his reactions seem to slow. I still think he might develop. Farren Rays big problem has been he never uses the ball well - just completely ineffectual. We can't lose Gwilt - he's the only defender that can rebound well. Agree with all your retirees except no sure about schneids - need people who can kick some goals to tide us over. Gunna be a tough few years.
Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
I hope Schneids carrys on. He'd be teaching a thing or two to the majority out there. Much better footballer on our list than most.

I think we can put Sipposs on the trade table.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

I'd prefer us to think about those trades after we have their replacements, not before. Phase them out in other words.
But Fisher? He is one of the games elite defenders, this years injury hampered performances not withstanding.

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
Gwilt is our best mid sized rebounding defender (Roberton close)
If we could get a FB it would allow him to go back to the rebounding role that made him so effective in 2010.
Allow him to take the third tall defender, but play attacking. Cut across the packs and help out the other defenders, but if we could have him kicking it to Riewoldt leading up onto the wing, we would be so much more dangerous.

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
Shopping some of those players we wont get any more than a 3rd round pick. Which will do us no good
McEvoy: We've put too many years into him to trade him for what we'd get
Stanley: Based on his performance and injury history we would probably get a "Thanks but no thanks" from all but maybe a few clubs
Gilbert: see above
Ray: Nobody wants him, we have shopped him around the last 2 years
Gwilt: We'd seriously get laughed at
I agree with who should play out the year and who is untouchable. Id add Jack Steven to that. I have a feeling cashed up clubs with aging midfields will come for him
The retirements. Fisher wont call it quits no way in hell, Schnides will probably go on, Milne ditto. Blake and Kosi I agree with
As far as im concerned the focus needs to be on getting Mitch Brown in the draft (national or psd) and trading for another 1-2 big defenders, if we cant do that we need to look for one in the draft or in the state leagues. We also could use a classy midfielder or 2. We shouldn't trade our first round pick/s under any circumstances. Unless pick 1 could come our way.
For mine we could trade
Ledger: Can't get a game and is performing at VFL level. Could package him with a late pick if needed
Stanley: If im wrong with what I said above. Could package him
Armo: As much as I love the guy he could help land a big fish we need. Or pick 1
Siposs: Another who can't get a run who would be value elsewhere
IMHO we need to hit the trade table and Free Agency hard or we may be stuffed for a while

Agree on your assesment of the first players mentioned but then I reckon you do the same thing and overate players. Ledger is not any pick at all. Its keep or delist. Stanley just because of his pace and height may get us a third rounder so not worth it IMO. Armo would not change pick 3 to pick one. he is a trier, a very good trier but he doesnt have it what ever it is. He would get a an early second round pick IMO. Siposs would get nothing just like Ledger or maybe again a third rounder. Again not worth doing. We have one player on our list that would get us a first rounder. Jack Steven. The only one close is ben McEvoy. That is the sad state of our list Im afraid. And yes Im afraid.

Unfortunately, we won't get Mitch Brown considering he just signed a 3 year deal with the WCE.Hurricane wrote:Shopping some of those players we wont get any more than a 3rd round pick. Which will do us no good

We need to target maybe Luke Delaney in the same way, PSD or ND.
I think Kosi, Blake, Milne &, unfortunately, Lenny will retire
Trade bait Ledger, Stanley, Ray, Siposs, Gilbert
Delist Ledger & Siposs (if not traded), Lever, Jones
Upgrade Curren & Ferguson.
Pick 3 Aish or Kelly. I'd actually go for Kelly, no go home factor!

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
Farren Ray has played well for us ,and I"m not sure why he is always put up as trade bait ,he gives 120% ,is a very good mark ,good clubman, delivery just ok but is in the age bracket 26 on,I think he"s one of those GOP that you need in the side and he could teach a few kids about the professionalism which he shows!

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
i am wondering of the team last night who would have got a guernsey with the cats?
I therefore wonder who we have who actually has value as i reckon we all view our players values with rose tinted glasses. eg i don't think we have much that is actually tradeable.
we're are in deep deep strife

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
One thing is for certain.. The next handful of games in the AFL and Sandy for the Saints, will nail who stays and goes from the list. I am not sure Roo will keep going as I don't think his knees will handle another full season- it doesn't do the club any good if he plays a handful of great games early in the season, then succumbs to chronic injury issues which is happening now. Tough call. Lenny should call it a day too, he is the soul of the team, but the time is up -another tough call.
Today's game at Sandy is good chance for Saints players to put their hand up, as at least 6 changes should be made to the senior team.

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
I'm pretty much with you Calais.
On Schneids I reckon they make a medical assessment.
If his body is stuffed he should go. He's wasting our time.
If his Body is ok I would like to see him have a go at the Brent Guerra roll down back.
He'd need to commit to getting fiiter and stronger.
Id like to see Geary just become a tagger next year.
Make him our Ryan Crowley. We know he has great running ability.
Give him a big job every week.
On that basis I reckon we can phase cj out if the side permanently.
We can't carry all of Lenny fisher and Schneider.
One has to go at least.
If you can't seriously play at least 14 games a year then you are toast.

apart from macca.... we there is noone on that list that would probably garner any interest... and certainly wouldn't be enough for us to bother trading...

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
Schneider is in our top six or seven players. He was far in front of our second best in the ressies last week, on class alone and is again the best today. We will be keeping him even if his hamstring means he only plays 50-60% of our games.Con Gorozidis wrote:I'm pretty much with you Calais.

Despite is foot and his age Fisher, if he wants to leave, will attract a fairly high pick from GWS and they are interested. He will be their Bock, they'll organise their defence around him for the next two years, they won't be caned every week and by the time he's done they'll be in the eight and challenging.

End of year change:
Move club back to Moorabbin. Gee this has hurt us.
Imagine Geelong to Colac.
Home is where the heart is.
Lets get it done.

Re: End of year changes I'd like to see.
We could enquire about the new Docklands ground as a new training centre and would be a lot closer to junction oval and our real home of St kilda. They are building a new sporting precinct with state money this year- we get Sandy in there for games and promote it while we train there with less driving and a million coffee outlets close by everyones happy. The government will be very keen to get people in there and an AFL club will bring in fans and people.

"RE-relocate from Seaford to Moorabbin? Am I missing something here? A first-class training facility that we've been in for less than 3 years and some want us to up-sticks and come back to Moorabbin? Have we inherited a lazy few billion bucks since last week?
St Kilda forever ( God help me)
