He's a real battler. A bit like Blake. Can't believe he's played 171 games - may well make 200!

Good effort for someone of limited ability.

I don't think that I have seen such consesus on this site for a very long time. I agree with the sentiments of all the above (I think all).

It's pity about his poor kicking, especially as he is a long kick. Clint Jones has obviously put a lot of work in this year on his kicking, so I can't see why Farren can't do the same - we shall wait and see.

Played in all three recent GFs. Whilst finals experience won't like be a relevant factor for a while, it's nevertheless quality experience that is difficult to replace. I'm glad he's staying, skill issues and all.

i like Faz real genuine guy always has time for the fans the biggest thing i think is hes a real clubman and the type that brings the group together i think clubs need guys like him and Blake who although not the best players are the honest workers ....

plus the official WA based Farren Ray Fan club would be devo if he was traded ;)

Always thought he's been a good contributor in his time here.
He was good in 09/10 and would like to have a few more like him
Plenty of experience will help the next lot coming thru .
I for one hope he stays....
Ps...
That goes fr Nicky D.we must retain him....

On ya Faz, been one of our most consistent performers this year.

He's actually in a age group where it would be super if he could be a strong contributor.

Midfielder Farren Ray, who was close to leaving St Kilda less than a year ago, has re-signed with the Saints for two more seasons.

The 27-year-old will pocket more than $550,000 through to the end of 2015, having been told by coach Scott Watters he is part of the club's plans.

Footballers are well paid now if Ray is getting just under 300k. That is really madness.

Any player approaching 200 games of AFL footy would have to be on at least 200, I guess he is fortunate that our cap improves significantly from next year on.

Good on him.

If he is getting $550,000 a year that puts him in the Corey Enright, Joel Corey,James Kelly bracket, and only $50,000 off Harry Taylors deal.
$400,000 for mine, TOPS

Thats for 2 years and IMO its still to much. You obviously dont think its enough so we differ there and by a fair way.

Agreed. By that measure Joey should be on a million bucks a year.

I reckon Ray's the beneficiary of our sudden increase in salary cap headroom. Someone's got to get the dollars and there aren't that many on the list at the moment who are contracted for 2015.

Probably been paid unders for many years. Good on him. One of few to stand up this year. Fantastic club man to go with it. The Monty comparison is rediculous.

I doubt he was being paid unders considering we got him off the WB which usually means you get paid overs. He will struggle for a top 10 in the B and F and Joey will win or come second to Jack so I dont see a problem with the comparision.

You get paid overs if you come from the Dogs do you? Pity we didn't get hime from the Demons then. What are you talking about? Lets pay Monty 1.2m. That should even everything out then.

Who are the 10 in front of him in the B & F?

I would think most players who leave a club get paid more than previously. I would have thought thats common sense. If you want to pay Joey that much then do it. it would be about 700K to much IMO. As for 10 iin front of him, I actually didnt say that. I said he will struggle to make top 10. may be around 8th to 12th. Its only my opinion. Where do you think he is?

Definitely Montagna, Steven, Riewoldt, McEvoy, Armitage, Dal Santo, Roberton. Probably Hayes, maybe Jones, Geary and Dempster. If he plays well in the last four games then he might scrape top 8, but my bet is he'll finish outside the top 10.

Keep in mind that he's currently sitting 11th in the Saintsational Player of the Year voting, equal 8th in the Coaches' Association votes.
