Record Number of Disposals in a Game

Post: # 1382568Post bergholt »

520 disposals in a single game of footy.

That was an all-time record for any club, beating Geelong's 510 against Melbourne a couple of years ago. And 377 uncontested possessions is the most ever recorded.

Jack and Joey both ended up with 47 touches and slot in equal 12th in the all-time list of disposals in a game. Jack's 30 handballs is equal 3rd most ever, and Joey's 34 kicks is the equal 13th. Joey's 40 uncontested possessions is second most ever.

And I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this is probably the first time two players on the same team have ended up with more than 40 touches in a game.

Good one for the statisticians! Given how poor Freo were, I have no idea what it means in the scheme of things. But f*** it was fun to watch.

We have unearthed two smallish players, Curren and Ledger, who are not just forward-pocket specialists - they are valuable around the ground and in our midfield, which is something we lacked during the year.

Another gun midfielder next year (with our number 3 pick) and a strong Rutten-like defender or two and we'll be a team to be reckoned with.

Not a great deal of pressure.... Dockers reserves insipid
But the saints were very dominant.... Midfield controlled possession.... They looked slow

Shows what you can do when you play the opposition's reserves team.

The number of times it came out to Saints on the wing and dockers weren't within cooey was amazing. There is a real trend in footy though were you shoot off little handballs when under pressure, often chaining 3, 4, or 5 in a row to try and get some clear air. Also the 1-2 handball (ala Ablett) is very popular. Previously it was about just bashing forward if under pressure but with defensive structures so comprehensive now that is considered too easy to deal with. And the pristine conditions they play in means an increased focus on possession skills.

They passed the previous record set by two players Craig Bradley and Camporeale(probably wrong spelling) who had 41 and 45 in the same match
