The only difference between yesterday and when we did it against Hawthorn is that our reserves side was still good enough to win
Sides should be free to rest whoever they want. It's not great for spectators because they want to see the best talent on the field at all times, but it's a professional sporting competition and unfortunately player rotation is a by-product of that. Fortunately for AFL it will never happen that often because there's usually something to play for (a spot in the 8, top 4, a home final by positioning in the 8, etc) right up until the end of the season. It's more of a concern for sports like cricket, where entire series can lose meaning because of experimentation of players.

Maximum allowed should be 4 players rested not 8 to 10.
This is similar to tanking. Throwing a game for other benefits.
$100,000 fine
That is the worst comment I have heard ever, what about us when we rested 9 against the Hawks few years ago. Freo travels every alternate week from Perth to all over the country but when they have to do back to back weeks specially in a final it is unfair.
Freo made a tactical move & hope it helps them, I have no problem with it.
What can be done in future is to have the West coast & Freo game in round 23 which will avoid travelling twice in 2 weeks.
clearly West Coast have tanked the last 3 games.
Once they knew the year was gone, they positioned themselves for the draft.
3 losses by more than 10 goals each the last 3 weeks.
that is a simple fact.
Whether such behaviour is acceptable is not for me to judge, but this rubbish about taking not existing, or that it will be stopped by the updated draft rules... dream on
Vlad Dimwit is a numptie. Coaches can do whatever they like.
They have to answer to their boards, and members. AFL don't need to get involved.
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.
Remember one of the 10 Commandments : Thou shalt have no other team before thee

Worse is the AFL give the cats a home ground final ata a s*** stadium...
That's worse in my book,gifting them a final,what a joke!!!
No different to Freo getting a home final from and advantage point of view, though is it?
Or Port Adelaide getting a home final to help them get through to the worst Grand Final ever.
Of course, the Dockers are going to be angry about a decision that will have a significant impact on their premiership hopes sprung on them at the last minute.
And, of course, they're going to be dismissive of the response that a Cats-Dockers final at Etihad would attract no more than 30,000 people when their elimination final at the MCG last year drew over 44,000.
Demetriou the same day admitted he was ''troubled'' by Fremantle's decision to rest half its best side for its last game against St Kilda, and the AFL was looking at legislation to avoid a repeat.

Mind you , WE know that Fremantle would have lost even if they played at full strength.
I tend to agree with you, but the question still remains whether we would have been able to get over the line if Freo played ALL the best players and if a win was going to guarantee a home final for them.
You have to remember that we did push them in Rd 15 and we led at half time on their home ground. Our younger guys faded over on the bigger Subi ground that day but I think we are bit more settled and I believe the inclusion of Gilbert down back and Curren and Ross in the midfield has improved the team, not to mention the class of Schneids.
There was so much emotion leading up to the first bounce and our guys were very nervous. I heard in the after match presser that Scotty Watters had some goals that he'd set the team leading into the last few rounds of the season and I think that we certainly would have built up to Rd 23 as our final for 2013. It would've been interesting to have played Rossy's mob at close to full strength....but there's always next year

Since when did Simmons stadium become a finals venue.?
Geelong play MCG or Ethihad,simple.
Interstate home finals have been part of AFL for a long time now.
All clubs deal with this......

It's barely an AFL venue. Only about 10 opposition fans are entitled to enter each game.
They did not do their best to win. Simple. They made a decision not to do their best, with the intention of enhancing their premieship hopes in the future - precisely what bottom clubs do when trying to get better draft picks.

Playing a final at Kardinia Park is a disgrace.
The AFL has treated Freo with contempt (not that I mind that) but it is hardly fair.
Freo should reward contemp with contempt.
They should send over the same B team minus The Pavlova as played against us.
Lose the game by 140 points.
But next week saddle up with their super -rested A team for a home semi-final and a 3 game tilt at the flag.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
