Next year it could be a Hawth vs Freo AND Sydney GF

Post: # 1400080Post Enrico_Misso »

Fascinating article in The Age at the weekend?
A conceptual artist called Gabrielle de Vietri got taxpayer funding to put an end to the binary stereotyping in sport.
So he ran a game of footy with three teams on the field ...

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/three ... 2v19r.html

It will probably amount to nothing.
But it certainly puts a whole new perspective on footy tactics.

Would love to know more about it.
The tactics would be revolutionary in terms of various combinations of the teams ganging up on the third team either in parts of the ground or even all over the ground if one team was building a lead.
I wonder if Sheedy was a spectator?

The Basil Sellers Art Prize website says that the outputs of the contestants will be on display "Exhibition at the Potter: July to November 2014".
Mark that in your diary!

Hey, why don't we just have the entire finals series decided in one afternoon on an octuplly-divided field?

You would have one team doing a deal with another to gang up on the third team...Collingwood would never win another game!

They've done this with football/soccer as well, there's even a regular 3-sided competition I think.

I find the concept fascinating but I admit that I haven't watched one single game.

Mark Fine beat them to the idea.
According to him, that's how we played all year.
Young Saints (pro-Watters), Old Saints (anti-Watters), and the third team.
A Young, has the ball, waits until Roo is double-teamed or running to a bad spot,
then kicks the ball just over Roo's hands, or at his feet.
Guaranteed spoil on the Old captain.
Notice how the Oldies like Joey and Lenny deliver to Roo with laser precision.
CJ plays for both sides.

Would make it easier if there were no wings but imagine the packs and ball ups still. Easier for defenders as Forwards would all be double- manned which wouldn't worry Roo cos he's always had that problem. And they would have to make a rule to cut out the present day third man up in ruck contests as there would be three up anyway and six could be very hazardous you'd think. But certainly a very interesting concept

yeah well the midfield stars like Ablett could have it tough like the forwards and have two taggers annoying the crap out of them all day as well! Although that would require two taggers in each team though I guess

As long as there's no more bloody umpires out there too Geez they'd all be trying to get in the act, it's bad enough now!

I only added the "taxpayer funded" bit - the rest is in the article.
It does sound a bit "basket-weaving grants" especially as she only saw her first game in 2011!

But I am looking forward to seeing the video.

So the only Arts that should be funded are those that you personally approve of?

I think I don't like conceptual artists. I prefer the term "bulls*** artist" which is closer to the bone.

I would be much simpler to do with cricket or baseball.

The main reason it is bulls*** for major sports is Stadiums are already close to capacity.
If a Collingwood Essendon home and away game is already turning away spectators, what happens when Collingwood , Essendon , Carlton play.
Basically ( unless its a stupid NAB cup preseason contest ) no one wants less games that you are less likely to get a ticket to watch.

Basically a radical but stupid idea, similar to what drunk people in pubs come up with every day of the week, and if anyone is getting paid for the dumb idea the person paying them should be shot.

To make it really exciting...it should be played with two footballs on the field at once.

The AFL would charge triple price for tickets.

If a point is scored, who kicks in?
