Without reading the article (can't be bothered) don't worry.
Board members are not children. They can read about betting odds like we all can.
-naming potential candidates through careful leaking,
will avoid questions after Chocko is anointed. "Chocko was the man from the start, right?"
The club is not stupid. They'll announce more names, don't you worry.
Leaks from "reliable thources" says Caro, will have the Chocolate One go out to $5 and others to firm.
Even at short list phase, another contender will get talked up big time as a distraction.
See how quick they deflected the "personality clash" thing?
Summers will announce at the presser "it was incredibly close between (insert name) and Chocko"

People. I am a cynical old bugger.
Never NEVER believe what the media says. When someone says something, I always ask "what's their agenda, what's in it for them?"
Folks speaking to a wide audience think of the impact their words will have.
They will lie, tell half-truths, as much as they can get away with.
Buying a house. Do you let the agent know EXACTLY how much you can afford?
I rest my case.

Gee, Watters must have been an even worse coach than I thought.
If the club is even prepared to consider approaching Voss how bad does that say Watters must have been.

I don't what our beloved Saints to spend the next 15 years being mid-ladder at best on-field, and slowly becoming less viable off-field.

Time to exercise that cynicism Wells.

For those of you who are so confident that I (and it seems quite a few others on here) are worrying unnecessarily... buy some AVJ shares... they're clearly 'under-priced' right now.

One thing he does do, that I bet you don't Dave, is run a $200 m company. If you really have a look at the financials, they are in great shape and look really good value right now. I know this isn't a share forum but it looks like a well run company at a good price. Dave your pot at AVJ is just stupid uninformed rubbish. My advice is to put some of your hard earned into buying a few shares...you never know, you might just pay off that credit card debt with the profits.

Isnt Ratten record pretty good considering Carlton had an overated side? Lets face it if we had a thread 2 months ago saying we will get Williams there would have been 5 pages saying not that old bloke but because it seems we are getting him now most people all of a sudden like him.

I think Ratten was okay too. He suffered from being there when they were down so when they went back up the ladder people still associated him with the losing teams. Mark Harvey also had his papers unfairly stamped. Both have experience of building developing lists into hardened teams. We could do worse.

Choco is probably a less risky prospect as he's a GF winning coach and is currently in the system in a team like we see our selves in a couple of years. We probably won't risk a guy with out senior experience unless we want a short term lackey while we build and bottom out.

I don't think we are waiting for them to start- most of them have been labelled duds early. I think the forum has set themselves up for I told you sos. Pretty much everyone is s*** so we can't lose if we don't win.

Any prospective coach who hasn't won a premiership at AFL level is an unknown quantity- then again Yabby came cheap and was just an average player back in the '60s. The ones in the system who have won premierships, are obviously a bit less of a risk..such as Williams, and he seems to be a positive at Richmond with his attitiude and experience. Other than that, there is Bomber Thompson, but he's got the Essendon gig next year. A lot of Carlton's improvement was due to having Judd as a midfield leader, same as Ablett jnr at CG, and I'm not sure Ratten has shown much more apart from being a premiership player. I would think Williams is the best bet, and really, Harvey could do no worse than many if we want to pick one of our own, and don't forget, Jeans was a Saints player who got us into the finals and a flag, and GT was also a Saints player who got us back into the finals.. so maybe Harvey isn't such a bad idea?

Misleading heading...and if one reads the article all that is really happening is that a hit list of possible coaches is being drawn up. Getting on the initial hot list, will not mean a lot. Article also mentioned Voss for example, and I cannot see him getting the gig.

Who gets on the shortlist that will be a lot more interesting.

However who knows. some coaches have been better at their second clubs. ie Matthews (thoughhe hada flag at his first) and Blight

Statistics have shown that St Kilda wins 80% of all games when Brett Ratten is coaching.

Get him.

The club is just going through the available candidates. Everyone who has coached before will be mentioned at some point. Makes a good article and sells papers but doesn't mean any of them will actually be appointed.
