"It is fair to say we are looking at extensions for both Nick and Leigh. Both are extremely important players to our club and we are looking forward to them playing out their careers at the Saints,'' he told the Herald Sun.
"Nick (Riewoldt) has been a champion of this club and his leadership both on and off the field is critical to us going forward. He had an outstanding season, and we are confident he has a significant amount of good football left in him."

Whilst you should never believe everything you read in newspapers, especially from the HUN renowned for ignorant fascist rantings from "convicted criminals", the sentence, "But while Montagna was at one stage keen to join Brendon Goddard at the Dons they had little to trade for him and St Kilda would not let him go" does not fill me with joy about Leigh staying and being given our thanks because of it.
It does sound like things were toxic with Watters at the helm and that the club was heading for oblivion if he wasn't quickly removed however Dermott Brereton reckons we stuffed up and are a joke and will never win another flag and he was a very good footballer so he must be respected because he knows a lot more about football than any of us do or for that matter ever will.

I find that very strange... They didn't want to give Montagna any more than a 2 year deal 18 months ago... And now he is 30 the are effectively giving him a 3 year deal?
