Congrats to the club on making the right appointment
I know it's all too easy to go all gaga over a new coach, but I was mighty impressed with Richo's message, and I find myself being alot more optimistic about next year....When the fixture was first released, I struggled to find 5 wins there for us. But now, for some reason, I'm seeing around 7-10 wins for the taking....
I wanted Williams to be the coach, because I'd never even seen Alan Richardson. Now that I've seen him, I'm glad we went that way.

Try to forget about win/loss this season.
It shouldn't be about that. And if it is about that for you, I think you'll be disappointed.

It really made little difference for the next 2 years if it was Choco or Richo. No coach on earth could get us into a GF in the next 2 years.
As long as Richo gets some games into kids and we see them improve in the next 2 years, with 2015 being an improvement on 2014 then I will be happy. Not expecting more than 5 wins next year.. but also hoping our backline wont leak as much or get monstered by power forwards.

Maybe James Hird. But apparently he's unavailable.Zed wrote:No coach on earth could get us into a GF in the next 2 years.

Let's get 100% behind the new Coach and see what eventuates next year. I like the look of him and his very experienced background - could be a good fit for us right now.

Whilst, I don't think we can win more than 5-6 games next year (MAX!) I do still feel more positive now that Richardson is the one steering the ship.
The coaching selection process might have been a complete shambles but I think they ended up with the right man.

We could have appointed the bull in the china shop, but we went with a more measured individual. The right move, and I think he'll go about his business quietly. Well, I certainly hope so.

Good post.I too was hoping for Williams , but am quite impressed with AR.hungry for a premiership wrote:I know it's all too easy to go all gaga over a new coach, but I was mighty impressed with Richo's message, and I find myself being alot more optimistic about next year....When the fixture was first released, I struggled to find 5 wins there for us. Just watched his presser, and he was good.
Think we've really got a good coach here, team should develop well.
Not sure about the wins next year, let's develop this talent.
Really happy with the new Pres so far as well....

Re: Congrats to the club on making the right appointment
He has been in the system for a long time, at 6 different clubs (counting Coburg), so would have learnt a fair bit.
Seen plenty of personalities, the varied dynamics etc
I would not think he has any baggage, unlike Chocko, who I think could have been risky, with the 2004 cup in his corner, and a point to prove- " I still have what it takes!"
Richo is a blank canvas. No baggage, nothing to live up to.
He is going to create his own legacy and reputation.
If he is truly as honest and genuine as he comes across, I firmly believe he will bring a unique honesty to the club.
As he said in the presser, the senior coach has to set an example regarding culture, etc, by walking the walk.
I reckon he could do that.
IMHO he will quickly earn the respect of the coaches and players.
He said "excited" about "50 times" (quote) but by crikey I am frickin excited meself.

He may not be the Messiah, but unlike Watters, he ain't no naughty boy either.

Well, if Watters had any flaws that I could see they were:
* non-development of Stanley, Siposs and Ledger.
* haphazard game plan.
*fetish for small forwards.
*questionable motivational abilities (the team often looked listless).
If Richardson coaches a side that gives its very best every week, that will be a quantifiable improvement. But will he?

Agree with the rest of what you said, but hardly Watters fault that Stanley and Siposs haven't developed. Both have had plenty of chances.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: * non-development of Stanley, Siposs and Ledger.

I feel for Scott if we get a few guys that take the next step and have an injury free backline with competition for spots we could conceivably win another 5 games and it will look like Richo is a genius. Having a couple of KPBs helps too. Although it is offset by the loss of Milne, Dal, Benny Mc and co.

Good coaches get in the heads of players and get their message across- I hear that Richo is that kind of guy, but I believe SW had problems getting players(especially the older ones) to align with his plans..just what I've heard

Your presumption is fallacious. It's not about wins and losses for me in that I want enough wins to finish top 4 or anything like that, but there is one good thing about counting the wins: they are the only definite, quantifiable measure of improvement!!!
Last season we won 5 games.
At this point in time I see these games as winnable games in next season's fixture:
R1 - Melbourne @ Etihad
R2 - GWS @ Etihad
R4 - Adelaide @ Etihad
R6 - Brisbane @ Wellington (ANZAC day)
R9 - Gold Coast @ Etihad
R14 - West Coast @ Etihad
R20 - Bulldogs @ Etihad
I also think we're a chance to snatch 1 victory from the 4 matches we play against either Carlton and Richmond, and a chance to snatch 1 victory against either Adelaide or Port Adelaide away from home..... but I'd rather beat Essendon and Collingwood.

Re: Congrats to the club on making the right appointment
I'm very confused. When the fixture came out you struggled to see us win 5 games, but then we sacked our coach and found a bloke working at port Adelaide who has done nothing but make a few speeches so far, we can now win 10 games? Interesting
"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."
Re: Congrats to the club on making the right appointment
I feel deja vue, cmon people, be realistic.. No one knows if this is the right appointment.. Everything can sound great at the first press conference. Scott Watters sounded great, but we just don't know. These kind of threads are somewhat embarrassing in a way.

Agree, except the crows game and posibly the dogs game, but I don't think we will finish any lower than last season, becase I just can't see melbourne or gws beating us at Etihad and they don't play us after that.

Re: Congrats to the club on making the right appointment
I'm with you there, and I'm not being a 'negative nelly', just think that we have lost a lot of experience already, and young players with skinnier bodies tend to drop off two thirds of the way through the season. I just really hope we can beat Melbourne and the Giants (well) round 1 and 2 at Jihad, or we may not even get five-six wins, because we only play them both once next season.QuestionOfAccuracy wrote:Whilst, I don't think we can win more than 5-6 games next year (MAX!)
