praccy match vs Port not televised?

Post: # 1434490Post saintspremiers »

Gerard highlighted this point now that the 3rd and final practice matches aren't telecast and that it was stupid, given they are the ones closest to the start of the season.

He's dead right. It's madness.

Surely they should fix it so every praccy match is telecast.

I thought everyone hated the NAB Cup?

That is was a farce competition?

That no one was excited about it?

That's what I kept hearing in the lead up to this and every other preseason.

But when a practice match isn't televised - everyone throws their arms up.

People need to appreciate the NAB Cup for what it is - Televised practice matches where you can watch kids. Not a avenue to bitch about and proclaim how you can't get excited about it!

Not directed to you SP - Just preseason competition haters.

Like all the other sports. Lucky to get the first 2 televised. they are practice matches. Consistant.

I know they are meaningless results wise. I just want to see the kids play. I'm lucky that I can go to Sandy and watch them there a bit during the season, but for many they can't.

Televised matches = more brand exposure which may help membership sales. THAT may be the biggest reason to have them all on telly.

Do you think it costs nothing to show these games. Like any other year none of the last practice matches are shown. Fox would show them if they could make money on them. Obviously they cant.

Agreed. 18 games in 18 days is pretty piss poor.

The season hasn't started yet...

Of all the sports in Australia, I think the AFL do a fairly good job promotion wise...

Any other year these last practice games would be after the old nab cup final which is why they wouldn't show them.

The three games this year are all just the same - practice games. So no reason why they wouldn't cover the third meaningless game when they have covered the previous two meaningless games, is there?

About the same as all the other sports practice games. How many of the other sports practice games are on TV at all? How many of even their proper games are on FTA? People complaining about no FTA coverage better get used to it for nearly every sport. It maybe not what you want but thats the way sport is going.

The solution is fairly simple.

Next year it will be 27 games in 27 days 3 round nab challenge.

Increases exposure, means all games are telecast right up until the real season starts.

Problem solved!

That isnt true as I posted just above your post. If you are going to make statements like that then some fact is also handy. AFL is on FTA more than any of the other major sports and I would think is the only sport maybe in the world that has 18 out of a possible 27 practice games on TV. Happy to counter me with some fact instead of wrong opinion.

These are practice games. Those are home and away games. Its like comparing apples and golf balls. I doubt any of those sports had practice games on TV. Less than 100k watched the soccer last week on FTA. pretty much exactly the same figure that watched a practice match on Foxtel. An opinion is ok but its wrong to compare completely different games. Foxtel obviously are happy to show practice games but Channel 7 know it wont rate so they arent interested. Not sure how you are going to make them interested.

I am sure there will be some sort of live stream on the Port Adelaide website or something.

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss
