Gilbert to play, really?
So on the 5th of March he is listed as 5 - 6 weeks away…
On the 11th, he is a "test"
Now on the 20th he's playing?
Maths isn't my strong suit, but those numbers seem funny to me.
Surely he hasn't been able to run enough to be considered fit for AFL footy?

Re: Gilbert to play, really?
It seems odd but I don't see why they'd name him if he wasn't going to play. It has been said by conditioning staff that Gilbert regains fitness very quickly - he played his best footy since 2010 late last year after an unexpected return from a LTI
Re: Gilbert to play, really?
Someone said recently, maybe it was Walsh, that he'd come along much quicker than expected.

Re: Gilbert to play, really?
Check out the Injury Update via the club put on Youtube - they sounded very confident he would be right to go
Either the club is playing funny buggers, or he's right to go.
I'm pretty sure he came back all of a sudden last year, and played pretty well.

Came across as gilbo has a good history of coming back from injury and thus could fast track the rehab. Would be a welcomed inclusion. Not sure this is the game to bugger around in.

Roll the dice. If or comes off could be the difference between winning and losing. Win the first two and it could help membership growthSolar wrote:Came across as gilbo has a good history of coming back from injury and thus could fast track the rehab. Would be a welcomed inclusion. Re: Gilbert to play, really?
He was doing stationary drills with no kicking on monday now he's playing??? I believe Jamesus must work in mysterious ways. Some one call the pope we have a miracle.
Re: Gilbert to play, really?
I would think it unlikely but only those at the club and Gilbo really know. If he lines up then fantastic, mean another experienced player we can play on the ball.

As gringo said :
If he plays, it may be a good call, but not if he injures himself again in the first quarter!!
All teams have their "spies," so we won't be fooling Melbourne. If Gilbo doesn't play, it makes the Coaching staff look a bit silly. He was doing stationary drills with no kicking on monday now he's playing???

What's happened to Bruce?
Injured or lack of form?
Injured or lack of form?
Posting 20 years of holey crap!
Re: Gilbert to play, really?
Apparently not considered ready. Surprising really because I'm pretty sure he was recruited as an immediate starter.magnifisaint wrote:What's happened to Bruce?

But with all Melbourne's forward line injuries, there also isn't much of a match up.
We'll see if he plays against the monsters at GWS.

Re: Gilbert to play, really?
Any chance of Jack surprising and getting back quicker than expected?

Re: Gilbert to play, really?
And it appears the chance of a late change to their line-up is high after Sam Gilbert – who is returning ahead of schedule from a foot fracture – did the bare minimum in the captain's run on Friday.
Gilbert had surgery on his left foot at the start of February and emerged as a surprise selection earlier this week.
He largely watched the light captain's run from the sidelines and didn't appear to break into anything more than a slow jog, but Richardson remained optimistic about his position before the session.
"It was certainly not a major [break]. It was a fracture, he was able to do a lot of work pretty quickly in terms of staying in good shape," he said

I asked him directly a couple of times at a best and worst time frame and he was very cagey. He said he should be back running next week but was still on crutches. He said the docs said he should just play it by ear and see where he is at once he lifts his work load. he said he must have jumped funny at training because he didn't notice doing anything to it. I asked him is it closer to 2 weeks or 8 weeks and he said he genuinely doesn't know. I am usually an optimist but he didn't seem to want to say so I'm thinking worse not better.

Lucky we aren't playing a decent side tonight or it might be 100point drubbing!
