May I give them a big credit

Post: # 1441759Post 3rd generation saint »

The Umpires, had no bearing on the game, we're consistent through the game, let it flow without tiggy touch free kicks.
Had maybe 1 or 2 hmm's from me, but no what the hell was that for free kicks.

So far, and it is only one round, but what a difference a change at the top makes.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Agreed one of the better ones. Don't like some of the not paid in the backs but rather them under paid than over paid.

The umpiring over the entire round 1 has been pretty good !

They favoured us largely, which is good for football but not for Curly's post count

And no pathetic 50 metre penalties.

They must have been ok because we haven't heard from Curly.

From what I've seen of the games this year they appear to be paying less frees. Not sure if the stats back that up or not. I certainly don't recall wondering whose free it was when umps blew their whistle, which was the case quite often last year.

The standard was good in the Dawks/lions game too. But I recall part of the problem last year was that the same umpires were the offenders each week. Can't recall their names but perhaps they haven't umped this round yet or have been sacked?

Only issue that I had was after hearing so much about play on being called for ducking the head - 3 frees to Nathan Jones for exactly that had me flumoxed, especially seeing as everyone else was called play on!

Yep, the Nathan Jones high contact were grinding my gears.

We still got the better deal over the whole night I thought.

Few holding the ball decisions should have been paid both ways.

Pretty sure we got away with a very obvious in the back in the 3rd.

We made a meal of some advantage calls.

Overall, I'd happily take that umpy performance next week, and the week after.

The games that I've watched have highlighted the best thing I've seen for years, the umps are letting the game go & the tough players who are willing to work hard will get the ball out. Well done umps… there I've said it !!! They were killing the tough little blokes off in packs but we're back !! I'm a passionate supporter whom is quite relaxed this year because I know we're rebuilding so I'm sitting back & observing without bias, love Saunders,Dunstan,Curren & Hickey. Jones isn't clever but he gives 100% & Roo seems to be enjoying footy again. Go Sainters !!
