Poor bloke…

It will give them plenty of cap space though, what was he on 700PA?

Sad and i doubt anyone could blame the Dees for that one. Looked a very good player when he was up and about.
Perhaps you're right plugger. Essential to do thorough mental health checks on players if possible. Maybe nothing would've shown up a few years ago though.

Can Mitch go on the LTI list so a Dees rookie can be promoted, or isn't mental illness classified as an injury (it should be)?

Interested in this comment. I reckon Essendon have done great deal getting Goddard for $800,000. They paid nothing for him (in terms of draft picks). In his first year he won the best and fairest. In his second year he's been in career-best form. He looks as dominant as he did circa-2009.

On top of that, they got a proven media performer who was particularly handy in that club's worst scandal ever. He's also arguably their best on field leader and something akin to a playing assistant coach.

I think he's been a steal for them.

Goddard is a better player than Frawley.. so since we didn't re-contract Goddard for $750-800 thousand we won't sign Frawley.

I reckon they'll prefer a first round pick though, possibly # 2

Does the fact that he's now playing forward change the landscape?

Not really. He's an A grade backman but a B grade forward IMO. Definitely not worth that sort of money as a forward.

He would need to be an out and out star, more in the Glen Jackovich mould, for that ridiculous amount mentioned. He is a good player but how much better would he be for us than Jason Blake? Effective players like Blakey don't hit the radar; Frawley has some good games now and then which keeps him in the limelight. A sat, however, he aint!

If Frawley was worth 800k he would be a star and he's not that. Probably just a shade better than his uncle but that's debatable.

AFL.com.au saying he will probably get 700 if he stays at Melbourne and only 600 or so if he leaves.

But where would he go? Only the Hawks probably tempting.
If I was him Id probably go to the Gold Coast (Finals contenders in the next 3 years) but I doubt hed do that.

Probably better off sticking with the Dees now.

If the Dees had one of Hogan or Clark forward they would have won 3 games already this year.

Teams need to have room in their cap first

Where the hell could Hawthorn find 600k in the cap?

GC has to sign GA next year, he is on the last year of a front ended contract... At a minimum would require 750k more next season?! They'll lose players next year

I reckon Carlton, Melbourne, WB, Brisbane, Fremantle, Adelaide would be the only clubs that could afford him? We would have the most room surely?!

The Bulldogs are in need of another key position forward, and could also probably do with a big key back given Morris is slightly undersized. I assume their salary cap also has room.

Surely wouldn't want Spud Frawley when they already have a spud at full back!

So they just beat us by 145 points... Are reigning premiers... And have plenty of cap space

I reckon

Shiels, Gunston, Hill, Smith, Suckling, McEvoy,

All have probably got a pay rise

I like him, he has presence.

Not sure where he will end up, but I like watching him.

He might be alright if he takes $800000 for year one and 50 000 in year 3. That would help pay our cap even if we didn't really want him. Get Riewoldt Jack too on the same deal. ATM we are paying guys for next year to meet obligations in minimum payments.

Wonder why Sydney can create cap space but the Hawks can't

Why assume the Dees will get pick 2, for Frawley they would have to finish last and on current form the will have Brisbane, GWS & probably the Saints below them. That results in picks 4 & 5 for Dees, giving the Saints pick 3 which would probably be traded for pick 25 & another Tommy Lee
