Next captain?
This hasn't been mentioned for a while so who would be likely next captain?
Maybe Roo co-captain?
I scoffed at carlton years ago at having no obvious choice, twice I think first when ratten retired, then Kouta,
they recruited Judd and made him captain.
Not sure how many people thought Maxwell would replace Buckley.
Most of the touted likely next in lines aren't here any more, so ,not based on your favourite player,
who in our current crop is next up?
I am actually asking, there must be some of yous that get closer to the group than me.

Re: Next captain?
Roo for the next year or two then hopefully a young guy comes through like Newnes. Sadly we dont have anyone in the 23 to 27 year old range that could get the nod IMO. Maybe we do what Carlton did and recruit someone. Lets face it why do they have to be Saints players for a period before being Captain as long as the player has the respect of all the other players.

So Judd being captain was the problem. Yep of course it was. Whats your suggestion SK?

I think Geary is the obvious choice, isn't the best on our list, but is best 22 easily and has the respect of the players and coach - I think I saw Richo somewhere say he was the coaches favourite.
As much as I'd love an up and comer like Newnes or Dunstan, they are just gonna be too young and we don't want a Trengove or Ball situation. Geary fits the age bracket, has the respect and leads by example.

If he stays. I've heard a couple of rumours that the pelican may have other plans for him.Con Gorozidis wrote:Armo

Surely not, only barely makes the cut as an AFL footballer.St Ick wrote:I think Geary is the obvious choice, isn't the best on our list, but is best 22 easily and has the respect of the players and coach - I think I saw Richo somewhere say he was the coaches favourite.

Re: Next captain?
I'm not really sold on Geary as a footballer.
Awesome endeavor, often horrid skills and decision making.
He'll be around for a few years yet - as result of our list and his leadership attributes.
I'd hope that a youngster would push him out of the team in 2 years time or we'd be traveling quite poorly.

Re: Next captain?
Can't see a captain, bar Dunstan in the far off distance. Roo until retirement, maybe Joey 2016. May be a transfer coming in the next year or two such as a Callan Ward type - youngish but experienced and captain material.

Re: Next captain?
I'm going roo to a senior player for a year or two then to Dunstan.
I like Geary but we have a lot of potentials in a similar position and he is ahead now but not by a mile. Not a good look if your captain is dropped

Wally Wally Wally, great question until you said yous. I'm afraid that you lost all credibility so please use the edit button.
Re: Next captain?
Geary will make a great captain for Sandringham. If he is the next in line for us, we might as well hand back the keys.
All progressing well, won't be on the list in 24 months. Would get a game at 0 other clubs.
Roo until 2016, by then the next tier will have sorted itself out. Steven may be ready, Newnes, Dunstan as a young leader, Dangerfield?

yeah richo said that on the rush hour, I think it should be geary. seems to set really good standards. also think armo would be good as wellSt Ick wrote:I think Geary is the obvious choice, isn't the best on our list, but is best 22 easily and has the respect of the players and coach - I think I saw Richo somewhere say he was the coaches favourite.

Re: Next captain?
Joey from next season for me, if he can capture back some of last season's form. I think it is time for Roo to step aside.
However I do worry about the Milne trail coming up.......... Joey's image may be tarnished somewhat. Saints can't afford a captain that many AFL supporters wont have respect for IMO.
My next choices are Armo or Gears.

I'm not sure his hearts in it at the moment either.
