His team needs more recycled players like Sylia and Gumbleton.
Maybe we can sell him Maister for a 2nd rounder. He can play a roll.

Serves the prick right. Took it easy today. They need 4 points. But they need Lenny's heart also.whiskers3614 wrote:Win lose or draw GF choker Lyon can EAFD!

Gumbleton and Sylvia are clearly eyebrow raisers. Given Lyon's past, those two selections are certainly intriguing, and may well be far more intriguing in a year of two when the history books are being written.

Did Ross turn up to Gillon's joint this week for dinner? If he did he didn't listen when Gill told the coaches that attractive footy is winning footy

Re: Suck it up you Lyin buzzard!
Great satisfaction today in seeing Lyin's cr@ppy game plan fall apart.
5 goals in 3 quarters in perfect conditions for a so-called premiership contender.
No way can Freo be a serious threat this year.
Shame in some ways because I would love to see Ro$$ lose another Grand Final or two.
Lyin could then become the "Rene Kink" of coaches.

Some really strange people on here. We win and they worry about another teams coach. easy to guess the names of those people to. Consistent.

Re: Suck it up you Lyin buzzard!
I watched his post-match presser and have to say that I was impressed. No excuses, no hissy fits with the questioner, just a brutally honest assessment of the game, and of his side. He paid full credit to our side too. I'm WAY past holding a grudge against the guy, and far too focused on backing OUR coach! GO Saints! ( to hell with the rest!)

I'm a big Rosco fan but perfectly normal for some people to be smug after that result and I wouldn't blame them.
Ross looked like he was seething at the presser.
Freo were terrible and were never in the game at any stage.

Re: Suck it up you Lyin buzzard!
Strange the hate for Ross still lingers....why though.
I'm glad we have moved onto / into the next Saints era.
He was great for us at the time and some fantastic highlights....but couldn't imagine Ross coaching us now....change is good
I'm just looking forward to the Richo era and the new young players we already have and what the next year or two will throw up in the draft.
Two articles in the Age yesterday were interesting reading - The Perfect Storm article highlights how things have changed since we were last
in this position (bottom of the table) and how these changes will make it more difficult with the climb back up the ladder / rebuild.

Fremantle's biggest two losses under Ross Lyon...
71 pts - Round 23, 2013 vs St Kilda
58 pts - Round 18, 2014 vs St Kilda
And guess who is now the only current AFL coach with a 100% winning record vs Ross Lyon.....?

Re: Suck it up you Lyin buzzard!
Yep I understand why there is "love" for RL - he has an enviable home & away record at the saints & i dont "hate" the guy for leaving
But i do acknowledge that as a so called guru coach, he has some major flaws, starting with no plan "b"
and as a much poorer side has proven twice when his game plan cracks, it falls apart big time.

Re: Suck it up you Lyin buzzard!
i still rate Ross Lyon ....
his game plan is about accountable footy , team defence , team offence ... its about having 22 defenders and 22 forwards ... its based on weight of numbers winning the ball more than the opp... it does work and it works really well (in fact it takes acts of brilliance from the opp and poor kicking by his team for it to be the only way to be beaten in grand finals)..
the way ross left was terrible and left a bad taste in our mouths but i cant say i hate the bloke .. the players still hold him in high regard, and where ever he go's he always get 100% buy in by his playing group so that says a lot to me about him and his relationship with his players

It hasn't all been one way. The loss at home in 2012 was the difference between us and them making the finals.

he actually is quite a nice bloke Stinger ... he left the club in a dodgy kind of way but i dont think he is of poor character he just did what was best for him and his family ...stinger wrote:saint-stu wrote:I can't help but still like Ross. I'm not sure why because I was annoyed that he left us.

also you could say the only reason we got to two grand finals was because of him as for costing us the flag i reckon kicking behinds instead of goals was the thing that killed us in that regard and i highly doubt Ross's instructions on grand final day was to kick it through the little sticks not the big ones .....
as for our immediate future ageing is a part of life we were always going to eventually end up where we are now even Ross knew that hence his coments of an end of an era in his last game for us .. in the end he chose to not lead the rebuild for us and chose to have another shot at the flag with Freo ... cant blame him really more money and more success or less money and a long rebuild ...

you are entitled to hold your own opinions...same as me......to me he lied to the club and was negotiating behind the clubs back with freo......good luck to them.....
he cost us the grandfinal in 2009 by not playing ball in the last quarter...a dreadful mistake....and by playing that goose dawson after he had been in hospital all night on a drip........maxie was always the better player and the better option....but not on lyins love list unfortunately......maxie would not have handballed the ball to the geelong fullforward in the goal square as dawson did..
in 2010 lyin lost us the match at the selection table and by forcing ball out of the side....that grandfinal would not have been drawn if ball had been playing for us and not against us with the filth......
he didn't develop any of our young players....and therefore destroyed any chance we may have had to not bottom out....then he left for the money.....without a backward look....no...i'm a fairly good judge of character...and the guy's a dead set creep......

Just tell me one thing. Was the week before 2009 and 10 2 of the best weeks of your footballing life? My guess is yes and if I could be bothered im sure your posting at the time suggested that. Also even who couldnt see we were taking a punt and the future would be bleak for a while was watching closely enough. And it was worth the punt also considering we have only won one in 140 years. And by the way GT and the recruiting staff drafting wasnt any better than RL once he had higher picks. Maybe that just proves we didnt have the money to fund a proper recruiting program. The rot started earlier than when RL arrived.
