Re: Out of contract
It'd be good to retain the top three there, who along with Gilbert provide experience acorss the backline, vital to our ability to remain competitive next season...keeping the majority of them on the park for large chunks of the season...thats a different topic altogether...

I wouldnt think so but they wouldnt pay enough for us to get a good pick anyway so lets just keep him and I think the club has been very good to him with all the issues he has had.

I'm not saying we let him walk by any means. Still a very handy player when he's fit. I do genuinely think a side like Gold Coast or North would take a look at him though.

I would doubt it. He is 33 next season with a lot of injury problems and well known other issues. Pretty sure he will not be required by another club.

Hard to argue that assessment.plugger66 wrote:lewdogs wrote:I'm not saying we let him walk by any means. Still a very handy player when he's fit. I do genuinely think a side like Gold Coast or North would take a look at him though.

We either offer him a year or let him go. The next few weeks may very well seal his fate one way or the other.

Re: Out of contract
Aside from his injury problems...what are these 'other issues' Fisher has? I'd be very interested to hear if there is any credibility to it whatsoever, because he has always denied any untoward behaviour flat out...so any aspersions cast on him include calling him a flat out liar...

I don't know anybody in the know...hence my reluctance to not beleive what Fisher said on our Website on a few occassions when the Papers were writing about his wayward behaviour.

Lets just pretend he has some issues and for example they have been drug use. Do you think he would come out and admit it or deny it? I know what I would be doing and thats deny it especially as the AFL will basically never let you get to 3 strikes so you will never be named publicly.

Re: Out of contract
There's a minimum wage which changes for each year a player has spent on the list I believe.Cairnsman wrote:Is there much flexibility in contract writing? For example could you sign up a player on match payments only?
Starts at 50-odd, I don't think you can avoid this.
Re: Out of contract
It was reported last year the Cats offered Chappy a 10 game contract. Might be BS though.dragit wrote:There's a minimum wage which changes for each year a player has spent on the list I believe.Cairnsman wrote:Is there much flexibility in contract writing? I hope we are locking away the young guys like Dunstan, Billings and Newnes on contract extensionsdragit wrote:A bunch of young guys re-signed a couple of weeks ago, including #10.
I thought the club would have announced it already, I'm sure it will be soon.

heres the eba
http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20 ... 7_2011.pdf
page 63 is what your interested in
in 2014 the base payment was almost 78k then 7.8k match payments on top that's the minimum a player can be paid

Re: Out of contract
I think we are paying some of this years minimum payments with contracts from next year because we can't meet minimum cap amounts. We need to find contracts to pay unless we get someone like Frawley or Waite. Might keep Schniedes and Fisher just to meet commitments.

Id rather give the money to Rooy, Joey, Jack and a few others. Frawley isnt interested in a bottom side anyway otherwise he wouldnt leave Melbourne. He is Sydney or hawks bound.
