Draft & Trade Discussion

Post: # 1496402Post Megamaguire »

One can only hope if giving away Pick 1 for a lower pick and a 'genuinely' talented player delivers a genuinely talented player. What a job!

We need a really well - informed and well researched decision on accepting a player with a lower draft slot.
Hopefully a year's research would make any decision a good one!

SAINTERS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

The Australian is reporting Gwilt to be signed by GWS.

Maybe a lower dp compo pick for him.

That's the good thing about the way the delistings have been handled this year, the players have certainty (knowing they won't be at the club) and they have maximum time to find a home elsewhere.

If Gwilty ends up at GWs i'll be very pleased for him. He certainly seems like a likeable guy and I think he would offer them plenty. To be totally honest, I'd have preferred we keep Gwilt and flicked Roberton; i'm sure there's an element of sentimentality there clouding my judgement, but on a list chock full of medium running defenders, I just can't see Roberton becoming a quality player...I know he had good season in 2012, but it was in a better team playing looser footy...Plays too loose for mine, without an obvious weapon. May be hampered by injury but that can't be helped and he's played on it so no excuses for mine. Just my opinion.

Im sure he has been delisted but he wouldnt be worth anything anyway. Hope he gets a spot somewhere.

Big Sauce Merrett is in the move from Brisbane.

29
Might be a good gap filler down back.

Him and Delany could handle the monsters whilst Chips goes back to the floating third role.

Thoughts?

Why would he be leaving Brisbane?

I'm not a prophet, just posting what I've seen on twitter.
Could be completely bulls***, but if it's not he would be a good pick up for anyone

Doesn't fit our age profile at all, and not worth a place on our list IMO at the expense of a young talent. I think he is talented though, and showed a bit when playing up forward this year too.

I'd rather have a proven stopper down back than a young/inexperienced body who gets destroyed.
Seems we could be going down the Melbourne path and getting rid of a lot of experience.
Hard enough watching how horrible and inept we were at times this year.
If we keep getting rid of older heads and bodies we will be nothing but witches hats

If he's been de-listed, doesn't he become a de-listed free agent and we don't get any compo for him nor have any trade currency with him?

It will be like how we picked up Roberton wouldn't it?

Listed here as delisted,

Not sure how official that is, but we would be mad if we didn't try to get any compo we could.

I know everyones going to be yelling about not accepting other clubs scraps but does anyone think it might not be a bad idea to grab Mitch Robinson for a season or two if we can get him cheaply?

He is 25 so could help fill that age gap and protect player like luke dunstan from having to use his body as a battering ram too often for a year or two.

Obviously Robinson isn't part of the long term solution but could be an effective stop gap...

I don't think he's other clubs scraps in terms of his playing ability - but I think the club seems to have taken a really strong "no dickheads policy" in its recruiting in recent years. Without knowing the ins and outs of robinson's altercation, the lying factor is a very bad look, so my personal opinion is a no. Would I be sprewing if we picked him up....deep down no, because I think he can play, he's very hard at it, and there's always that hope that a player can turn things around off the field...

We did a whole thread on this a couple of weeks back. The nays had it. And the exclamation marks on most of our keyboards wore out. NO d/heads!

Sam FROST is exactly what we need down back in our defensive unit. He is exceptionally quick, big strong and aggressive and could play on any of the tall forwards as match ups required. I know Plugger was never a fan of the Frost boys but I have seen a fair bit of him with GWS and too me he will be an absolute ripper and exactly the defender we need! If I was part of the Pelchen recruitment team I would be all over getting Frost to the Saints...
