Re: McCartney resigned from Dogs
That's not a surprise given yesterday's events.
Will be interesting though to see how this plays out with Griffen - will he now stay? Has he got other motives behind his trade request?
All very messy.
Glad we aren't making headlines like this.
Look forward to seeing how our draft plans go - will this place our plans back-on-track?
Go Saints!

Re: McCartney resigned from Dogs
Just so nice not to be at the centre of controversy, just amazing what is happening, so now the Suns and Bulldogs now looking for new coaches. So hope the Suns pinch Thompson from the East Germans as that will completely stuff them up, especially if Hird gets the flick.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Quite amusing because last night amidst all this turmoil I watched 'Year of the Dogs'.
Worth watching. It seems like history is repeating.

Gee i wonder how confident Mooney is of holding onto his Job this morning...Looks like the big Flog backed the wrong horse!! What not to do...bag the skipper and best player before he is out the door...I wouldn't think thats the best thing for your own job security when your a bit part assistant!! Love the ex player tough talk. Always thought the bloke was dead weight upstairs, talk first think later...

Comparatively, St Kilda HQ is an oasis of calm this year, while various other clubs implode,
players go club-shopping, AFL imposes sanctions, ASADA process grinds on, etc etc
Fortius quo fidelius with The Pelch, Richo and Summers!

we mentioned mcartney but didnt realize it was such a rabble down there when we were discussing coaches on the chop
sort of started to hear about rabbleness a fortnight ago at the kennel
players not happy with the coach etc etc
i was actually surprised when they had the review down there last week and said the coach is safe
i was sure they were going to sack him
oh well
another one bites the dust

Just goes to show you that you can't trust anything football clubs say in publicmatrix wrote:i wish it was so i could grab bragging rights at work, but we said hardwick end of next year if the tigers dont go deep into finalsbergholt wrote:Where's matrix? Wasn't Macca the third in your trifecta?

Re: McCartney resigned from Dogs
Griffin, Higgins, Cooney etc leave anyway?
Laughable.
Everyone goes on about assistant coaches being all cats, aren't they all ex dogs, and the cats guys are simply development roles?
What do senior guys at the dogs know about a successful model?
Guys like Ling can't believe he's gone.
Not enough of a body of work, surely?

I dare say with McCartney now gone Mooney wouldn't want to be around all the softcocks anyway. Just saying.

No, I don't think we do. I think the players have a massive amount of power when it comes to influencing the senior coach position. But I would argue that most clubs have a very similar culture in player power with regards to the coach...bigcarl wrote:Well we know who runs the club over there. I mean Geelong get hailed as the model of excellence all the time, and they basically just had the opposite happen, management were about to Sack the coach, when Scarlett and co. basically said, if Bomber goes, we go. How is that different in terms of player power dictating a coaches position, for better or worse.
First time coaches with no premiership success coaching complete rebuilds are on a hiding to nothing. There is only one in the last 15 years who's done it...Clarkson.
Will the players ever have major influence of a sponsorship deal or CEO or pres...no. Senior coach...of course they have sway, some probably more than others, but if enough players band together, Coach will always be the easier out. IMO

Re: McCartney resigned from Dogs
The captain quits and Cooney and other senior players want out ... then the coach is removed or removes himself. Join the dots. I'm glad it's them and not us.Saint wagga wrote:No, I don't think we do. I think the players have a massive amount of power when it comes to influencing the senior coach position.
