We Don't need Key Forwards, We need midfielders so the forwards we currently have can Develop at a faster Rate. We've got Key Forwards all in the Right age bracket coming through.

Firstly Boyd may never have wanted to come to the club and secondly maybe we looked at him and said he may not be what we require and thirdly we may still be in the running to get Boyd and finally maybe we realise the game is now run by mids and then if the mids don't work out you get more mids and if they stuff up you then go out and get even more mids. Our mids are no where near good enough at the moment to make Boyd to look any better than Liam Jones.

For gods sake P66 will you stop bring facts into this?

4 mill for three years to a bloke who will catch cold in our forward line because we wont have the mids to get it to him.

Boyd is a terrific player, but the facts are.

1) GWS said no trade under any circumstances
2) way overs by a club who is desperate to look like they are not in crisis
3) Saints have other fish to fry

We have said we will negotiate a trade if GWS are interested including pick 1 being up for grabs according to Harf time on SEN. Bulldogs might need to offer Griffin and their first pick. Boyd was incredible at TAC level. I watched a game he played in and he is dominant. Great long straight kick and really big strong marking forward. Think a better Tippett mixed with a better Tom Hawkins. In a few years he should dominate. I would do Armo and pick 1 for him and a fringer from GWS.

We bent over backwards to get him (thru Pick 1) last year, how could we not be on the pulse??

Maybe he doesn't want to come to us. Maybe they offered much more money. Maybe they are prepared to get shafted on $$ and we aren't. Maybe we don't know sh1t?

Does anyone else find Peter Gordon's ramblings annoying?
He just talks utter s*** with endless cliches. Why is he even crapping on about trades anyway?

We are not yet ready to be making big plays for these guys. 2016/2017 we can make a Buddy Franklin-type offer to the best forward in the comp. The Dogs are 2 years closer than we are with their list, so they are in the frame now.

More importantly, any trade involving Boyd would leave GWS with all their picks available, and even more likely to try and obtain pick #1.

So it's to our advantage.

Anyhow, I can't see GWS releasing Boyd from his contract, so I don't think anything will come from this.
Stop talking sense.

It seems closer to the truth than not.

How about the Dogs completely whacking McCartney on the way out? Something along the lines of McCartney being a great development coach however not a coach to lead them going forward...ummmm....what?

Our club continues to make terrible decisions over a prolonged period however sheesh...what a bunch of pricks and a boys club made up for average players that carried themselves higher despite playing for a crappy club.

Personally all I can see a crackdown from the AFL to make players honour their contracts a bit more, seems a lot of players, and young players at that are spitting the dummy and wanting out just because of minor things. This will not be good for the game or teams like us.

Its seems that most wanting to break contracts are actually going to the clubs lower on the ladder. I don't know how you can stop it anyway.

GWS will end up worse than Melbourne if they keep losing their elite players, in fact, they could end up in a bidding war with North for all the old blokes.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Perhaps this is the strategy - drive up the Boyd price and then fleece GWS of that pick too

Pick 6 plus Griffen to gws seems fair.

Then gws can send us pick pick 4 and 6 for pick 1.

Gws still end up with griff patful and petracca. Fair off season.

Lets be more aggressive if they really want Petrecca, wait until Carlton deal for Jascke done and go 1 and 20 for 4,6,7.

We wont get 3 top 10 picks for pick one even if we through in 20.

I read that and his point that clubs who want to change their culture shouldn't employ past players lingered a little in my head. It certainly seems logical. Personally I'm always suspicious of any ex-player getting important jobs in club set up. Corporate strategy is very different from on field strategy. They may be able to do the job, but are they really the best for that actual position. I suppose it's a trade off for the increased loyalty and motivation.

Let's hope our past players take the club where it needs to go. So far it's about even I'd suggest. Perhaps a bit better.

We dont actually have that many in positions of power if you look at it

http://www.saints.com.au/the-club/people/board

Ok Burkey and Andrew Thompson clearly fit into the 'ex-player' category but thats about it.

Pelchen - No
AR - No
Finnis - No
Bains - No
Kingsley - No
Luke Beveridge - Kind of - but I wouldnt say he was really part of ex Saints player mates club.

Burke and Thompson are whom I was referring to. They make up a third of the board if I'm not mistaken? Bevo has gone elsewhere and come back so hopefully he's a bit less insulated. I dunno, I'm probably being paranoid.

I still think we'll have a real crack at getting Boyd before this trade period is over!!!
