Round One Spots
I don't think there aren't as many spots up for grabs as is commonly thought.
I calculate that there are really 11 guys competing for only 4 spots.
Here is my perception. And that would only have 2 guys playing their first game in Round 1 - which is probably about par for the course.
Definitely
1 Tom Hickey
3 Jack Steven
7 Dunstan
11 Montagna
12 Riewoldt
14 Geary
15 Billings
16 Newnes
19 Gilbert
20 Armitage
21 Delaney
24 Dempster
25 Fisher
44 Weller
(14)
Probably
4 Eli Templeton
5 Savage
28 Membrey
32 McCartin
(4)
Maybe
6 Seb Ross
8 Acres
9 Lee
18 Longer
22 Ray
26 Curren
27 Bruce
29 Webster
30 Murdoch
34 Wright
35 Saunders
39 Shenton
(11)
Probably Not
17 Roberton
23 White
31 Simpkin
10 Markworth
33 Goddard
41 Minchington
Defiitely Not
2 Siposs
36 McKenzie
37 Lonie
42 Pierce

Re: Round One Spots
I would say that Seb Ross is a Probable and McCartin is a probably not.
Savage is certain starter if fit as is Ray most likely.
Wright and Webster if fit are also very likely to be included.
Players will need to force their way into contention.

Re: Round One Spots
I think I will wait until after the NAB cup before trying to guess the team for round one.
Re: Round One Spots
Gilbert will not be playing round one.
I'm not sure why McKenzie and Lonie are 'definitely not's?
Bottom line is that, leaving aside any injuries that might happen between now and then, there is a LOT of competition for spots.

Both young and underdeveloped and both had injury interrupted pre-seasons.FQF wrote:

I think fair to say they are no chance in Round 1 unless we get quite a few injuries in the next 3 games.

What injuries did they have? I can't remember hearing about any...Con Gorozidis wrote:Both young and underdeveloped and both had injury interrupted pre-seasons.FQF wrote:

Re: Round One Spots
I would say that our midfielders, both experienced and inexperienced, need to get their actual hands on the ball a whole lot more this season and guys like Ross, Curren, Weller and a couple of others really need to step up a rung and get that extra intensity and importantly, consistentcy into their games.

I reckon 38 Saad is a good chance for Round 1.minneapolis wrote:I don't think there aren't as many spots up for grabs as is commonly thought.

Savage is one if the few that can kick and run. So he will be in.
Membrey is looking good to play too. early days though.

Lonie did his ankle in December/January and couldn't run for 4-6 weeks.FQF wrote:What injuries did they have? I can't remember hearing about any...Con Gorozidis wrote:Both young and underdeveloped and both had injury interrupted pre-seasons.FQF wrote:

McKenzie didnt play the intra-club due to an injury. Still injured as far as I know.
