Whilst I didn't like what was said on the banner, it was effective in touching on some raw nerves. It may have worked in getting more of our supporters more vocal. Boy, BJ Goddard certainly copped it from all angles during the match. The Essendon CS would have been eating that banner for their tea, had we have kicked a little straighter.

Austinn my good friend, as you're a froggy and not at games (I assume you are in France)
you may not be aware that banners are normally lame and non offensive.

That's the code that teams should abide by.

I genuinely don't get what was offensive about saying we would cry for Goddard to come back though. A harmless dig on the "chewy on yer boot" side of the scale of insults. They even said we'd have a crack! I find this banner far more offensive:



As far as Essendon goes, I'm offended that their coach isn't banned from the game, that the sham of an investigation ended with loads of money and time wasted and no justice, that they messed us about for two preseasons in a row, but saying that the club likes an old player of ours, frankly I can take with good humour. Good on em for trying.

Here's some banner ideas for our next meeting:

Some people are far too precious, Austinn. I like that they did something out of the norm. I don't even pay attention to what they put on banners these days, because 99% of the time it something completely banal. All it was was a harmless little dig at the opposition supporters. If anything, it was good because it brought more feeling into the game. And you're right, it wasn't as though it was disrespectful either. They did add we'd at least give them a contest. It wasn't like "we're going to defecate all over you whilst we're at it". They were basically saying "the other supporters are going to carry on like pork chops over a former player, which will make it all the more fun to win". I would like to think this would motivate our CS to come up with something as witty next time we play them.

Hugh actually did some training with the Bombers prior to the Draft.

Maybe the banner was a mistake.

Maybe it was really them who want Goddard back
