The problem for Saad

Post: # 1547259Post saint6709 »

Our last pick in the draft and our first rookie pick have started with such an impact that I doubt our recruiters would of dreamed of such starts to their careers - unfortunately for Saad he is competing with these 2 kids for a spot

Which can only be good in the long run.

Competition for spots is great news for us.

If Saad wants to be playing senior footy, he knows he's gonna have to be playing really strong VFL footy and demand selection.

Agree, but I don't think it's fair on our recruiters to ask "why did we recruit Saad" on this basis.

I'm sure we weren't expecting Lonie & Sinclair to have the impact they have.

If we have 2 young small forwards comfortably keeping Saad out of the side, that is a great thing IMO.

Lonie has had more presence from a young first year player than I can remember for a very long time, Sinclair quietly not far behind.

Saad seems like a determined young guy, so hopefully he propels himself to become better, has some elite qualities, but just seems to not have enough footy nous or flexibility.

At worst, I hope he can put pressure on our young guys for a spot.

Pretty much exactly sums it up. No one would have thought these young guys would get so much of it and use it that well.

Saad is tracking as I would have expected him to. His play style depends so much on reading the play and there is no training for that a part from playing matches. Something he wasn't allowed to do for so long. He will be back at some point.

Lonie and Sinclair have both so far this year only played the one position too...the same one that Saad has played. But both look more rounded and lively, and have simply been better. Both look to be "silk"...and I am particularly enamoured with Sinclair at present.

Good position for the Saints to have had two young'uns to have stepped up to be keeping Saad out based on form. This is a good thing for the Saints.

Saad has to fight for his spot in the team like everyone else. Can only be a good thing.

Pretty sure that both Lonie and Sinclair have both had runs in the middle. Both are less one dimensional than Saad.

Long season with some young bodies. Depth will be important back half of season.
