Re: Great win by Melbourne
All of us want a Saints premiership........a combination of good draft picks and a winning culture are essential.
Which of us have not consoled ourselves after a loss with the thought of a better draft pick? It's just the mechanics of a rebuild.
No point having a go at another forum member over it.

Please be clear about what element of the above post you think anyone could find mildly offensive, Saynta. You aren't a lawyer are you? Kos is bringing him to book and you are accusing him of being offensive. Laughable. Teflon has made a point of insulting the poster he's talking to in many of his posts, so I doubt that he could really be offended by anything Kos has just said. Nice effort at shepherding though.saynta wrote:And you don't think that your last comment is even mildly offensive?kosifantutti wrote:I don't know what you mean by "quoting selectively". All this because that "6 games" is the closest Teflon has ever got to quantifying his theory in real terms. He would like us to perform badly enough to lose enough games to have a good position come draft time, but is not prepared to tell us how many games he'd like us to lose, or if there are any specific games he'd like us to lose. You don't find that cowardly?
I'd suggest that Teflon call it what it is: tanking, and deal with it instead of backing out with retaliation and snideness. It doesn't matter, the team won't actually DO it. It's all hypothetical, but I think lots of us would be interested to know if Teflon will be barracking for the other side at ALL our remaining matches, or just some, and if some, which ones.
OK, maybe it's too difficult to face reality, so I'll ask a much much easier question: if you think 6 wins is too many, I assume 5 is OK for you, that's one more than we currently have: Out of our coming 11 games, which one would you be OK with us winning? Would you like to go for a big name? Or one of the teams we 'should' beat? Right at the end to finish positively or a win in the middle to stave off the gloom in the fan base? Something at home amongst all the other Saints fans or deep in enemy territory?
Bulldogs, Bombers, GWS in Sydney, Tigers, Demons at the G, Power in SA, Freo home, Kangas, Cats home, Sydney home, or Eagles in WA?
I know it's a bit hard to think in terms of winning, but try to remember what it used to feel like before you cared about the Draft.

Re: Great win by Melbourne
If we do win 6 games, that is a massive effort considering where we are at in our rebuild. It is possible that we will go backwards after the retirements of Roo, Joey, Fisher, Dempster and Faz though.
Could win Saturday night, against the Bombers, GWS interstate, and Melbourne at the G, but won't win all of them. The last 6 rounds will all be losses and a few hidings.
Carlton might win a few now too. We could finish third last this year, I think.

Re: Great win by Melbourne
I agree with most of that. Carlton are playing to keep careers right now, Brisbane could get a few more and GCS with Gaz are always more likely to win. melbourne should finish higher than us because they are probably ahead of us by a couple of years in the rebuild. I think we will win 6 to 8 games this year, not sure which ones but there should be one or two against lower teams and at least one upset left.samuraisaint wrote:If we do win 6 games, that is a massive effort considering where we are at in our rebuild. Re: Great win by Melbourne
I agree with the OP. I dont like to see any sides way down the bottom. Be nice if every side can get at least 4 wins for the season. If the Demons got 8 wins and finish ahead of us, thats fine by me. I just dont want to see our % drop below 80.
On a side but related note. Pretty good story here. I dont think anyone would begrudge this kid heading to Brissie with pick 1 or 2.

I know it's a bit hard to think in terms of winning, but try to remember what it used to feel like before you cared about the Draft.
You need me to quantify what specific games we ought to win/lose so you can understand my 'theory'??
My 'theory' is very simple: right now wins mean squat to me. Wins are not the highest priority for a side light on for A Grade talent desperately needing to make every draft a winner. THE best way to do that is to get the best possible pick in the draft we can. Yes, we still have to choose well but before then we need the best possible choice.
Does that mean lose every game? Nup cause that aint where we are at. Does that mean win every game? nup cause IMHO that will only mask a much bigger talent gap that will become a chasm in 2-3 yrs time when our ageing stars (propping us up a bit atm IMO) finally retire.
Let me be clear so you get my 'theory' (and Ive said this multiple times already but muppets choose to ignore and post ignorant rubbish) I would love a top 5 pick this year.
Do I 'want' the saints to beat WB? Do I 'want' the Saints to lose games??? Ofcourse we all 'want' to win but that IMO isn't what we 'need' right now as a priority (see want v need....stay focussed). We all 'want' to win a Premiership ...some of us just choose to be realistic about how we might use the system to go about that - others meander along week to week 'hoping' to just win taking no account of what our side needs so they get some personal, immediate sense of satisfaction.....good for them.....Im after a flag before I die and Id do whatever it takes to get that or my name isn't Teflon Dank!
The rest is emotive rubbish that takes no account of where our team is at right now talent wise and in todays professional world of AFL football that emotion only exists in the terraces by fans still wearing duffle coats (I had one too but grew up).
Time to grow up.
