O'Meara hypothetical
Let's say we win 10 games and Gold Coast only win 5.
O'Meara says yes to the Saints.
Suns say we want Armo + Saints pick 8 or no deal.
O'Meara says he is prepared to go in the draft (and go to Freo, Bombers or Blues). Under AFL Rules this means GC would get no compensation.
Saints then force a compromise and Suns demand EITHER Armo OR pick 8 but not both.
What do you do?

Keep Armo and welcome Michael Hurley at the end of the year and Rory Sloane to the club as a FA in a couple of years. Simple really.

Re: O'Meara hypothetical
Obviously the coach will want to keep Armo because he is most interested in winning games in 2017 but will we really be ready to challenge before 2019?Trev from the Bush wrote:1. Keep Armo.

Realistically what are the chances of either?samuraisaint wrote:Keep Armo and welcome Michael Hurley at the end of the year and Rory Sloane to the club as a FA in a couple of years. Simple really.

We're tracking really well, I reckon it may be a case of strap on to your belts from next year.Con Gorozidis wrote:Obviously the coach will want to keep Armo because he is most interested in winning games in 2017 but will we really be ready to challenge before 2019?Trev from the Bush wrote:1. Re: O'Meara hypothetical
O'Meara is done.
Even back on the field just one knee plant into the ground from redoing the injury.
No player comes back from patella injuries in AFL.

According to those in the know on BF the club has ruled out JO as a trade option - but things can change in footy as we know!

Re: O'Meara hypothetical
That is interesting indeed. Is it because the knee is too risky?Impatient Sainter wrote:According to those in the know on BF the club has ruled out JO as a trade option - but things can change in footy as we know!
If so then maybe we look at Prestia?
If not I am happy to use pick ~8 in the draft on a midfielder in a strong draft.

So there is someone on big footy in the know?
That would be a first.

Or maybe JOM has told us he wants to go Hawks, Norf, Bombers, Blues or Demons.saynta wrote:Impatient Sainter wrote:According to those in the know on BF the club has ruled out JO as a trade option - but things can change in footy as we know!

Are we still allowed to trade our first round pick this year? Can someone confirm if there is a rule forbidding the trade of yur first round pick in consecutive years?

According to those 'in the know' on bigfooty 6 months ago O'meara was signed sealed and delivered to us. Having said that so was Josh Kelly,Cameron,Steele Sidebottom was also as good as a saint. Those 'in the know' on bigfooty have yet to deliver on one big name trade rumour yet

Re: O'Meara hypothetical
There is a limit on trading first round picks. However, we used a first round pick last year to get Gresham so we should still be able to trade this years first rounder.magnifisaint wrote:don't think you canWhite Winmar wrote:Are we still allowed to trade our first round pick this year? Re: O'Meara hypothetical
The rules are that if you trade a future first round pick you can't trade any other picks from that draft. You also must use two first round picks in any four year period. Pretty sure neither of those scenarios applies to us.White Winmar wrote:Are we still allowed to trade our first round pick this year? Unless of course you count out Carlisle and Rice weeks before it was known anywhere else.jonesy wrote:According to those 'in the know' on bigfooty 6 months ago O'meara was signed sealed and delivered to us. Also Freeman was mentioned a few days before it became public.
So you are completely wrong. But dont let that stop you.
JOM's knee is stuffed. Patella injuries are usually career ending for contact sports.
In Feb North and Blues were the front runners.

Re: O'Meara hypothetical
Think you are 'guilding the lilly' a bit with that call jonesy, I dont recall any of those statements as being correct. Posters have shared that the club has made enquiries or met with players thats a long way from signed and sealed. If JOM can get his body right he would be a good fit for the club, but there is a good chance that will never occur. The little pieces we get from people like Tony74 and others on BF keep the sites interesting, so lets not shoot the messengers.jonesy wrote:According to those 'in the know' on bigfooty 6 months ago O'meara was signed sealed and delivered to us. Re: O'Meara hypothetical
They can have our first round pick and we will throw in Templeton, Murdoch, Shenton and Saunders.
Murdoch is the only one in there of any potential future value.
We get O'Meara and get him fit with Freeman for next year we will be looking at Top 4.

I get PM's from people over there days before it is public and it is always spot on.
Maybe you are put out that you don't get the information???? Who knows you sound very angry for some unknown reason.
