Questions about Weller and Webster...
I don't have a very good handle on these guys.
I read that they're def starting 22 players, part of the future, up and coming brigade etc but the match reviews always seem to be more on the lukewarm side at best.
What kind of player is Webster... He's touted medium sized defender with good disposal. My feeling is that his disposal is inconsistent, he's in the air work is ok at best and he seems to fall over a lot. Doesn't seem to provide a lot of run.
Is that harsh? Love to hear what other people think in terms of his strengths and weaknesses.
Mav on the other hand seems to be a stopper that plays a little all over... Presses forward a lot. The thing is I often read about him bring touted as a gun... What are the areas of his game that need to improve for him to get there?
What will be his position long term?

Webster should play midfield. Run and disposal are his elite attributes.
Mav. The perfect defensive forward. That kicks goals. Hard as nails that can do midfield duties when needed.

Re: Questions about Weller and Webster...
Websters role is now that of a 2nd lock down player, because Joey has gone back.
Joey and Savage are now providing the run and carry, which is what Webster was doing last year.
Jimmy is unselfishly playing this role for the good of the team.

Re: Questions about Weller and Webster...
Agree would like to see him released to the midfield at the very minimum on a wing. Swap him and McKenzie positions next week. Cant see it happening though Richo is like having Tommy Hafey coaching the side - completely void of any imagination!ROLS-LEE wrote:Webster should play midfield. Has the most overrated disposal in the AFL
Flips it a lot, hit and miss.... Better than Gilbert and Geary... But not reliable

Re: Questions about Weller and Webster...
There are a few players whose positions remain under question on today's performances - headed by Webster and Weller who were both very poor against very ordinary opposition.
Webster is far, far too easily beaten at ground level and in the air principally because he has no core body strength and Weller does not impact the contest - except for looking spectacular as the ball sails over his head.
In fact our defensive players were generally poor again today with the reliance on Fisher, Montagna, Dempster and the mids rolling back.
There are plenty of spots on offer in our currently experienced back 6 so hopefully those in the VFL have taken note and bring real selection pressure.
Our mid-field hid a lot of ordinary performances today - and then, in the second half, our strike forwards came to the party off the welter of ball going in there.
With all due respect to their service at St Kilda, Goddard and Gwilt today showed why they are now at Essendon.
