The Injury List

Post: # 1616085Post Saintberra »

According to the official AFL website, St. Kilda is the only club that boasts a completely empty list of injured players.

Is there anything that we can attribute this too? Did we prepare better at the beginning of the year/was there any fitness staff changes? Or is it pure luck?

I posted somewhere else how Dempster had a big hand in our offseason training regime. Obviously there's a lot of luck keeping everyone on the park but I don't think it's done any harm having a footballer involved in the conditioning program.

Not sure you would call it a "big hand". As part of his studies he has worked at the club. This will help set him out for his intended post-playing career. I am sure it added value, but would imagine it was only a small added benefit rather than a large one given our extensive team of doctors, physios and sports scientists etc

Injuries and footy are just a matter of when or not

It's a ballistic collision game

They can occur to the most well prepared and not to an unprepared....

Yes, SR there are certainly a lot of people in the football department, but I'm not sure how many of those involved in conditioning (4?) have played at this level of the AFL week-in, week-out. My point is that it's probably a good thing to have a player involved in that space - which does indeed bode well for Dempster's post-footy career.

Agree, only have to look at Gold Coast injury list, couple of soft tissue injuries, but majority are impact injuries, just bad luck, not underprepared

If only we'd won the Hawks and North games we'd be in a position to push for finals this year. I mean how often do you have virtually a full list available?

Interesting to note though that commentators are talking up Richmond's chances of making the 8 - and they're still below us on the ladder. They did beat Sydney of course...

If we won those two games we would have over achieved as a result of few-now no injuries.
Those two losses have us where we belong on the ladder.

We might quibble over order but I think we would all agree our best six players this year have been:

Steven
Armo
Roo
Ross
Dempster
Joey

When was the last time one of these six missed a game? We have had an incredible run with injuries.
