Hickey
Deserves his own thread.
Was superb again today.
Has consolidated the number 1 ruck position.
Dominated today in the ruck.
But more importantly was a key player around the ground.
He took some telling marks in defence.
And presented himself as a link player in numerous plays.
He's not in Dean Cox's class, but it looks like he is trying to play that sort of game.

Re: Hickey
One of rare ruckmen that can actually pin point a pass.
Longer might be better in the hitouts, but Hickey has him in spades around the ground

Pretty sure AA isn't chosen from Melbourne V St Kilda in round 17. Gawn would be ahead

Gawn has AA just about stitched up.
Hickey has been fantastic this year and Longer has his work cut out for him to reclaim the #1 job.

Re: Hickey
It was my first game live since the Carlton win. I simply can't believe how dominant he is now.
Did you notice the Dogs second 3 goal surge came when he was having a rest and all their momentum stopped when he returned to the field ?

First use of the ball is vital - that's why we need a more than capable second ruck - stop gap measures wont cut it against top level clubs

Carlisle will fill the void next year. More than capable second ruckman.Sainter_Dad wrote:This!saintspremiers wrote:It was my first game live since the Carlton win. I simply can't believe how dominant he is now.

Re: Hickey
I noticed when hickey had a rest on the bench we conceded 3 quick goals, his ruck work is superb however he also backs it up often with a tackle.. its like having a extra man on the ground. Too many tall rucks rely on their hight as their only asset.

Re: Hickey
Im not sure people realise how good Carlisle is going to be for us. His contested marking in defence is amazing. StKilda are shaping up to be a seriously good side. 2013 was the year we made this team.stkfc1 wrote:Carlisle will fill the void next year. Re: Hickey
I assume the club knows well the stats on clearances when Bruce rucks .. it is very dangerous to concede advantage like that.. two rucks debate continues IMO

Re: Hickey
Personally, I'd love to see us go with Lewis Pierce as a back up for Tom. The Carlton game showed the benefits of having another tall and mobile ruckman as back up for Tom H
St Kilda forever ( God help me)

Re: Hickey
I agree with this. We lose all momentum when Bruce goes into the ruck. Not his fault but maybe the mids need to combat this differently

Re: Hickey
Gorn has AA stitched up. So far ahead in almost every stat.
Hickey, really is not that far behind him. He has been a revelation this year. I always thought he had the most upside out of the bunch of rucks we have, but his improvement this year has been fantastic.
Still young too. So much upside.

Re: Hickey
Cannot speak more highly of Hickey.
Herculean all year. Played well most weeks and gives the team a huge benefit by allowing us to play an extra mid. Has been huge.
My prediction is Jack Steven finishes 2nd or 3rd in the Brownlow but Hickey wins the B & F.

Hickey and Ross are the story of the year so far for us.
