It was a joke. Nick was known at the Saints, for always being under the sun lamp getting a tan ( Vitamin D) ......... Since a lot of those tanning places have been outlawed, a and thankfully come under stringent controls, to save the vain from their own stupidity. Nick doesn't do the tanning parlours these days...... hence joke about lacking Vitamin D these days.
