Home Renovation- what can be done for $300 Mill

Post: # 1637868Post saintbrat »

What would you like to see done if/ when Etihad is updated?
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victor ... 0222014280

THE AFL’s plans for a $300 million revamp of Etihad Stadium include a new waterside stadium gateway, open-air bars, restaurants, parks and a running track.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Under the AFL’s proposal:

$300m would be pumped into rejuvenating Etihad Stadium and the precinct;

THE arena would open out to Harbour Esplanade and a sprawling waterfront entertainment zone;

A RUNNING track would wind its way around the ground, a giant rock climbing wall built, with grassed parkland; and

COMMUNITY yoga classes on the Etihad playing surface are also in the document.

access
# from ground levels to external concourse improved and made more accessible- ramps, better lifts , escalators.

# Bus parking or at least better drop off and pick up points for those not travelling by train

# wider variety of affordable food items.

what can others see as options..
apart from waiter service from bars to seats -- can you still get this in medallion?

Stadium needs an additional exit point/ramp over the railway lines linking it to Lonsdale St.

I can't read the scoreboards at Etihad. The numbers are too small or poorly defined. And the screens are tiny compared to the MCG.

The numbers where they show who is on the bench are crystal clear. Why can't they show the score there?

Improve the surface so they can also play VFL games as curtain raisers for the seniors.

I applaud this. This is what they need to do. It feels like a soulless concrete monstrosity. There is no real joy walking to the ground - all you see is grey concrete and high rise buildings. These places should be our cathedrals that we stare at in wonder as we walk towards them like you do going to the G - a suitably holy and spiritual place of worship for our gods.

It feels too commercial and brutally designed for that. They need to make it feel more alive and somewhere you want to be - not just a place to suck you in, strip you of money and squirt you back out again. Some greenery and natural stuff would help. Make it fit in with what is going on around it - give it some goddamn character. It should be the cheeky upstart to the G's grand lady.

I'd flog it off ASAP and not waste a cent on it.

If they can get $1.5B for the land, why not pump $800M into building anew stadium somewhere near the G and distribute some of the windfall to the clubs.

Wouldn't they have to pay for some land to put the 800k stadium on?

Not sure why you need 2 grounds next to each other? Dock lands is not exactly hard to get to...

First step- appoint someone ....
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/a ... sdaeh.html
Birch said football supporters rated Etihad as a "middle of the road" AFL venue, adding that the new owners were determined to rectify problems faced by patrons entering and exiting the stadium.

"It needs to be the best in its class and at the moment it's not there," conceded Birch. "If you have a problem at the game, where do you go for help or information? Clubs have to be represented at the stadium and in the stadium, not only on the concourse.

"The entire customer experience needs to be reviewed. Getting in and getting out, food and beverage, the attitude of staff and the delivery of services."

Etihad is already the best stadium, any changes risk farrrking that up, let's not make it a mini G, that would be shite.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Maybe an extension. Probably a front porch or, er-r, or a patio.

I wonder how much it costs to change the prices listed on the food menus above each outlet so they match the MCG?

That's cheap & quick to do and will have an immediate big impact. At the moment the ground loses a lot of food revenue to the outside vendors that are very close by due to price. It's a no brainer.

Replace the turf in the goal squares with trampolines. Imagine the species! It would also make it hard to race into the open goal. Have you ever tried to run or kick a football on a trampoline? Hilarious. I'd also have a series of tunnels under the surface that lead to trap doors on the surface, so that players could surprise opponents who thought they were in the clear. The surface should be able to be flooded, like the ancient Roman Collosseum, so that final quarters could be played like epic sea battles. Interchange players should emerge from a tube, as in the Running Man movie. This tune could be used to deposit the player anywhere on the ground, obviating the end to run on and off from the bench area. It's the future, folks. You know it makes sense!

Demolish that triangular shaped building that blocks access to the stadium when you cross over the bridge from the railway station.
Whoever allowed that land to be utilised like that is obviously corrupt.
Who allowed it ?

Who arrives at the stadium from the dockside of the stadium ?

Is there lots of cheap / free parking on that side of the ground ?
Is it quicker to catch a tram that runs along the dockside than crossing the foot bridge from Spencer St ?

Oh now I understand, Mike Fitzpatrick arrives at the ground from that side, dropped off by his chauffeur driven limousine when he flies in from Sydney.
$300 million well spent.

I think Etihad needs a re-creation of the mens toilets that were over behind the scoreboard on the outer at Moorabbin..need some retro styling.

Yeah, great memories. I remember queuing up with my Dad to have a slash at the first game at Moorabbin in 1965. A brand new brick structure with a couple of hundred blokes pissing on the brick wall with crushed bluestone floors! Apparently, they had run out of time to install proper urinals!

Something like that would save a fortune at Etihad because it would shut up the whingers and make them appreciate how good the stadium really is.

On a serious note, my legs are about the only part of my body feeling every hour of their sixty years. Those bloody ramps up to level 3 are taking their toll. Travelators would be the go, make access easier for us old buggers.
