Re: tim membrey
He needed the run, he is a lock according to Jaxons
The Dees backmen are well below his standard, so I reckon he'll get at least 3, and will take many marks

Surely you're kidding. These are practice matches. He kicked 48 goals last year. And we're playing Melbourne in round one!

Re: tim membrey
Played on a very good defender in Nick Smith, Membrey will improve. Id be more worried about McCartins impact on the game and inability to kick goals...
Re: tim membrey
Might have the equivalent of "second year blues" (even though not second year but second year after break out year) as he has put himself on the radar and teams now will put the work into him and mark him closely. Needs to keep working hard and push through even if the goals don't come. I liked his pressure tonight and working to make sure Swans defenders at least didn't mark. You would think Battle is still a fair bit off being 17 and all so his place should be secure this year. But if he really drops off this year and guys like Marshall or Pierce come out of the blocks as a taller fwd/ruck option - you never know. Needs to keep working it. One great season doesn't lock you in forever.

No, he didn't get a run - not sure why. Maybe 8cres 38 possies yesterday sorted that one out.WellardSaint wrote:did Koby Stevens get a run? Official AFL site says zero touches, Fantasy Points Nil

Nah is just very green and needs game time but most forwards struggle against Sydneys defence. Having said that Paddy got beaten by a rookie no name defender tonight.Jacks Back wrote:Looks like we picked the wrong bloke with our number one pick.Impatient Sainter wrote:Played on a very good defender in Nick Smith, Membrey will improve. Re: tim membrey
Without wishing to be negative re Membrey, because he had a fine 2016, BUT does anyone have the listing of who he kicked his bags of 5 against and what his performances were against the other Clubs?
I have in mind he kicked 2 x 5 v Melbourne.
But how did he impact against teams which finished in the 8 in 2016?
That said, and given our spread of mids able to add at least Acres and Stevens to today's side, what sort of 3rd forward would Riewoldt make running around behind McCartin and Bruce - and what pressure would come off McCartin and Bruce?
It is all about putting the most potent side on the park.

So you do not think that most good forwards will kick more goals against the weakest teams? To the top wrote:Without wishing to be negative re Membrey, because he had a fine 2016, BUT does anyone have the listing of who he kicked his bags of 5 against and what his performances were against the other Clubs?

By your logic Jack Steven should be dropped to as his biggest games last year were mainly against the weaker teams too. Of course there might be a pretty obvious reason for this....
I cannot believe the negative posts against Membrey tonight. He is our best medium forward since Hamill and we are most fortunate to have him playing for the Saints.

Re: tim membrey
He's a lock.
He looked a bit out of sorts last night, but he's one of those players who eventually gets off the leash.
That's why he was our top goal kicker last year and probably will be again this year.
Also, notably, was the only one of our bigger forwards to actually get on the board last night.

Re: tim membrey
Given about half his goals came from games he kicked 5 in, what was the remainder including trends evident?
EVERYONE on our List needs to improve by a minimum of 10% - and Membrey is no exception.
So, in setting goals you analyse past performance including setting the goal to also impact the scoreboard against sides where he did not in 2016.

Re: tim membrey
I wouldn't look to far into Members form or Bruce'S last night. Neither team went In expecting both the contest or the weather they were in for. Which was evident at the start. They started harder we went up a gear then they went up etc.....
The 2 highest paid forwards in the comp kicked 3 between them, with much better service for most of the game
Shows the nerves that were there for both teams as every body wanted to win.
If we go into round 1 with our forward line struggling the way it did then I'd be concerned.
Ultimately the way it played out I feel is the very best prep you can get heading into round 1 of the regular season . That feeling of working for the win in round 1 Vs port then the reverse vs Sydney gives a feeling of both sides of the coin for no injury or missing point In the regular season

Re: tim membrey
Don't get me wrong I think Membrey was great last year and hope he becomes a gun.
It's just a discussion.
Here is one thought, we have many players in line for a round one spot. Therefore could Nick become a high half forward and we play an extra midfielder or both Dempster and Gilbert, with Sam playing more on the wing in the Nick role

Acres to gert into the 22 for Round 1 needs to displace a mid/hf ranked higher than Koby.
