Guess The Crowd: Saints vs Dees
33,356
I'm expecting a disappointing crowd. It should reallly be 40K given all the hype and expectation
for the two clubs but Dees fans hate Etihad.
On top of this, Essendrug plays Hawthorn on Saturday night right after our game and that match is forecast to get 80K, sucking up a huge amount of neutrals.
The one positive is that it's the first AFL game at Etihad so medallion club attendance should be solid.

39,000. Mostly saints fans.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

I reckon Dees fans will attend in abundance smelling blood. 41,390.
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Its not ski season and Melb supporters are up and about. I think many will actually make the trek across the city, so I'm predicting 46,000.

No Snow...so 44,444.
Surely this will drag a few Dees supporters out?
Then again Sat night games can have more social clashed. But perhaps the early evening start will allow those going out to still attend the game.

Re: Guess The Crowd: Saints vs Dees
A match like this late on a Saturday arvo, round 1, expected top temperature of 27 degress, massive build-up, deserves a crowd of at least 40,000 I would have thought. I think Melbourne supporters are bullish about this one and will turn up in numbers. The question is; will ours? We had 38,000 members, and Melbourne 39,000 in 2016, so an attendance of 40,000 should be achievable. Anything lower than that would be a disappointment for the club. And let's hope we sell a few memberships on the day because in 2016 we were on bottom of the Victorian teams membership ladder which is just an appalling state of affairs.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Sadly, I was the only under estimator.
We got about 36,500 in the end.
The poor crowd partially due to our fans not tuning up in abundance either.
But as predicted, 78K at the G at night sucked up plenty of neutrals. Add to that
corporate wankers who chose qualifying day at the GP that clashed with our game but not the night one.

I think that's right. It seemed way hotter (outside) than predicted and if I was neutral I would have hit the G outside rather than the dome with the roof closed.saintspremiers wrote:The wise old man takes the cake today!saynta wrote:37500

I thought our side of the stadium showed good turn out but, again, Melbourne supporters just don't come to Etihad.

Plus a few. The gate I walked through the turnstile was broken and so people were just walking on in.
