O'Meara out with knee injury. Did we dodge a bullet?
I see JOM is out this weekend with a knee injury. No word as to whether it's the old one or a new injury. We dropped off him last year after the medical exams. We were red hot for him prior to that. Don't forget that apart from their first round pick for 2018, we also got picks 23 and 36. All that for 10 and 68. Guess who we got for those two picks? That's right, Ben Long, who debuts this week and looks a beauty and Josh Battle. Not bad, eh? Jaeger may end up as the gift that keeps on giving.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Dodged a rocket more than a bullet, he has been favouring his leg in the games he's played and appeared reluctant to kick. On top of that he was way too expensive anyway.
I also see that Caleb Daniel has been dropped.

I think WW also flagged JOM as having a thin ligament in the repaired knee,
due to the operation,
and the medicos thought it could potentially be an ongoing issue.
We did our due diligence, well done to the club

Too early to say.
However we certainly could not afford give up what the Hawks did to get him which was overpriced. And the risk to do so for us would have left us very exposed.

Would have been a crazy punt to take him. Hawks have taken a massive risk.

Too right, SR. They can afford the odd stuff up, given their record, but Garlett was a hawker that us rarely mentioned. I'm just glad they gave up so much for our picks 10 & 68. Long, Battle and whoever or whatever we get for their first pick next year. I'm excited!

Re: O'Meara out with knee injury. Did we dodge a bullet?
I recall saying at the time that I had a source who had spoken with doctors in QLD very well connected to the club. They couldn't see any way he could have a meaningful AFL career and thought his knee was stuffed. I was ALWAYS worried about the saints going after him. I won't say I'm relieved as he seems like a nice kid, but the club deserves credit where it's due. It appears the saints did their due diligence.

Yep got that one right. One they didn't take that was the right decision as opposed to one they did take who may be the wrong decision.Moods wrote:I recall saying at the time that I had a source who had spoken with doctors in QLD very well connected to the club. Yes, we.did and the fact that his missus has been driving around in Hawks sponsored car (Audi) for the last two years might have given it away as well!!!!!Moods wrote:I recall saying at the time that I had a source who had spoken with doctors in QLD very well connected to the club. Don't think too many Hawks fans would be that upset and they can always turn to
10 hours of winning GF's to watch to ease their pain.

For our 2016 first rounder (pick 11 on the day) and our 2016 fourth rounder (pick 63 on the day) we got Hawthorn's 2017 first rounder.White Winmar wrote:I see JOM is out this weekend with a knee injury. Looking like better than a top 10 pick on the day.
But then we got Ben Long (pick 25 on the day )and Josh Battle (pick 39 on the day) as our commission for the trade.
We have effectively deferred our 2016 first round pick by one year.
Ben Long and Josh Battle will determine how much we gained in the trade.

Re: O'Meara out with knee injury. Did we dodge a bullet?
Wouldn't it be hilarious if the skid marks finished last... but, had to hand over the number 1 pick.
They have no young blokes who look like being anything better than 'solid' footballers.
The only blokes tradeable for a first round pick (Cyril and Roughy) are now too old to interest most clubs.
Yet they have no decent trade picks coz they sold the farm for a bloke with a dodgy knee (shoulda' listened to Dr Byron), and a bloke who currently leads the competition... in turn overs.
They will soon be stuck out at the Dingley tip.
And they are stuck wearing that horrific piss-poo jumper. No amount of flags can make up for having to look at that thing.
No wonder our Ameet wouldn't join that rabble.
