Bad Decisions
We do have a tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot.
Starting with trading Ian Stewart for Billy Barrett.
From there:
1) Letting Hawthorn take control of Waverley as a home base.
2) Letting Hawthorn take over control of Tasmania when we have such a large supporter base down there.
3) Choosing to play at Telstra Stadium (currently Ethiad) instead of the MCG
4) Not complaining about Hawthorn's push into our territory at Dingley (i.e. Southern Suburbs)
Please add to the list but also lets have another topic titled Good Decisions

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

There were plenty more... which were defended at the time

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Blight!

Stevie - 'Bad' decision, made for very solid reasons. One doesn't channel Jon Dorotich, and even less so, outside a primary school during school hours.linz wrote:We do have a tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot.

1) Linz, do you mean when we played home games at VFL Park? If so, I didn't notice they 'took control'(?) Or do you mean their current training HQ? If so, they were given an offer too good to refuse, to help promote the housing development out there. They didn't want to go there otherwise.
2) Totally agree! Huge shortsighted stuff-up!
3) Not sure how much of a choice we had(?) However, IMHO the far bigger mistake was to then not follow through with the Butterrrrrrrrrrrrrs Board threat to return to Moorabbin to play our home games. Not doing so cost us huge money in lost home game revenue, cost us matches won, and therefore, arguably, cost us a flag or two.
4) Not sure about on what grounds we could make that complaint(?) Personally though, I was more pissed-off about firstly Fitzroy using JO as their home ground, then those disgraceful tankard Dreamons using JO as their training base.
5) Biggest mistake I can remember - allowing Moorabbin to be bulldozed.
Servicing the Moorabbin debt when interest rates took off is why we went from the powerhouse that we should always have been, to nearly 20 years on the bottom, and to almost out of existence - yet through all that, we somehow managed to hang onto the ground - only to...
IMHO that would also be a bad (and sad for this forum) decision Linz.linz wrote:Thanks, my last post

Re: Bad Decisions
Thanks mate. Too much celebrating our sensational win yesterday made me tired and emotional. Negative post anyway. We've done a hell of a lot of good things at the club too. Hiring Richo as coach was a major positive.Dave McNamara wrote:Stevie - 'Bad' decision, made for very solid reasons. Leaving Moorabbin. NZ. An absolute shocker. Not drafting Juddy. Hiring Archie Fraser. Hiring Scott Watters, Blighty and Tim Watson as coaches. Things that make you go hmmmmmm........l

That's a fine example of reframing, sp. A much better way to look at it. Silver linings on black clouds and all that.saintspremiers wrote:Timmy delivered us Roo & Kosi.
