Billings arrives!
I know he's played a big half before but reckon today he is really announcing his arrival.
Don't want to jinx us but an hoping fir him to carry ion in the second half and Acres and Gresham to repeat last week's last quarter heroics!
Can't see the game but Dunstan's numbers are looking up on his previous output/ is he having much effect?

Steele will be a star in the clone of Rory Sloane.
Well done Billings. Was looking ordinary early in the season but he's working his way into things now..

Re: Billings arrives!
Didn't come from nowhere. Billings has been excellent for the past month, really getting into good positions and getting the ball in good positions. He's been taking his shots and today they went through the big sticks. His first half was dominant in a way we've not seen for a while, in that he was playing a fairly classic half forward flanker and dominating. That's supposed to be the impact of a gun rover or big man.
That goal from outside 50 (along with Seb Ross's goal from outside 50, and his snap) represent something we have lacked for a long time: the capacity to hurt the opposition at the drop of a hat. It's like we've had players who can only score from the free throw line and now we have three point shooters.

Billings, BOG and WAS the difference between winning and losing the game today.
How often does a small forward get 30 possessions, use the ball well and kick 5 straight.

Re: Billings arrives!
Not surprised at all. He did this in the VFL in his first year as an 18 year old.
I reckon he's done his apprenticeship playing behind the ball and on the wing, and now Richo is allowing him to play in his rightful position. Foward!
I'm just wondering. How does a player get 30 possessions but is not AFL fit?!

You didn't see Acres piggy backing him all over the field with Billings on top whipping him like a horse to go faster? Quite innovativesaint-stu wrote:

Billings had had a good season except he had kick 3 goals 9.
Today he kicked straight.

Re: Billings arrives!
Cmon man... are we jumping on him now he's played a quality game. He's been roundly criticised for underachieving up until recently? Seriously, four weeks ago we wanted him dropped (most won't admit to that) and he was struggling. Has built over the last few weeks and had a BOG today.
What I mean by good... is a good AFL player, not someone who plays a good or even great game. A good AFL player plays a 7/10 game most weeks and the odd 5/6 or 8/9. Jack Steven is not a good AFL player, he's better than that... he's a gun. At the moment Seb Ross is moving out of that category as is Dylan.
Jack is not as fit as it takes to play at high levels consistently. His aerobic fitness is relatively average for a midsize/small afl footballer. That's why he starts well in games and drifts outs, it's why he's better early in quarters and fades late, it's why his kicking can deteriorate late in games or quarters.
It's actually a good thing, because it's an area that will improve and help him deliver his talent more consistently.
Tonight he was BOG in one game
I'd like him to win a B&F

Re: Billings arrives!
Dead set, someone should report you for trolling… no wonder you were kicked off bigfooty permanently.
4 weeks ago he had essentially the same game with 28 touches and 10 marks, he just missed the goals with 1.4 instead of 5.0 today.
Are we really going to argue over the consistency required before you can call a player 'good'?

Brilliant breakout game.
Now need him to maintain that level.

JB has played 3 "good" games in a row.
Today he was everywhere. Better than "good".
Today he was all class.

Err.. That was the Pies game. The game he played very well in.BigMart wrote:Seriously, four weeks ago we wanted him dropped (most won't admit to that) and he was struggling.
I do not recall one person calling for him to be dropped. Let alone most.

Re: Billings arrives!
Confidence has always been Billings issue. It won't surprise me if his wayward goal kicking becomes less and less frequent. He no longer has that panicked look when he is shooting for goal. Also good to see him play HFF which is his spot. Whilst I don't mind if he has the occasional run on a wing I really don't think he is suited to being a true midfielder.

Re: Billings arrives!
An exceptional performance he was the difference today...
30 posessions 5 goals that's as good as it gets.
He has been doing well the last month, his body is capable now to cash in on his talent.
Great news for us!!
